Pros

- MITRE Internal Research and Development Program (MIP) - Decent benefits but used to be a lot better (time off and PTO) - Ability to grow and create your own opportunities, if in the right group - Broad gov't customer base (growing in Healthcare; multi-agency) - Smart and highly educated people - Trusted and respected advisors to the gov't (in a fair number of cases) - Opportunities to make significant difference for this nation

Cons

- Pay can be low for junior staff in certain technical fields (i.e. Computer Science) and no mechanism to correct over time; has caused significant turnover in junior staff - No real technical growth path, rising requires taking on management responsibility - Top heavy on management that have almost no technical focus - Most management lack appreciation and knowledge of real technical contributions - Working hard does not necessarily equal more reward

Pros

Smart people who care about what they do for their govt sponsors and the American public.

Cons

Can be bureaucratic, but it's a large organization. Needs to be more agile.

Pros

MITRE works in the public interest; as a not-for-profit, its focus is on that mission, not on making money. Integrity is a core value and is demonstrated by "speaking truth to power" and walking away from jobs that aren't in the public interest. Focusing on the next innovation is encouraged; since you're surrounded by smart, well-educated, and dedicated professionals, you can continuously learn and grow. The retirement and PTOB are among the best in the industry and work/life balance is real.

Cons

As an operator of FFRDCs, MITRE only works for the government - primarily the federal government. The inevitable bureaucracy, uneven and unsure funding, and political changes can be frustrating.
