Great Potential - Cultural Challenges

Pros

MUFG Union Bank is dedicated to an integrous workplace. As one of few organizations not requiring funding from the US government in the crisis, their risk aversion has made them a solid company that takes few chances with an unexpected outcome. There is great tenure in the organization and focus on collaboration and collaborative decision-making.

Cons

MUFG Union Bank has not been able to differentiate between those forward-thinking decisions that directly affect the stability of the organization and those that do not. All decisions are made collaboratively, so that even decisions at should be made at the lower levels of the organization are subject to significant oversight. Changes are glacial, at best, and agreement of multiple levels are required before moving forward. Little (if any) change is made in the organization without some other organization having made it first. Once the decision is made, execution is required within a heartbeat, placing unnecessary burden on the lower levels to accomplish. In a current environment where velocity makes a difference, this is not a word that leadership understands in a way that can be sustained in its support organizations.

Pros

If you want the least responsibilities, this is your ideal working place. Many no brainer work, actually can't really think of any pros.

Cons

Very few communication within the department, and they don't bother to train the temp employees. Japanese managers are mostly unfriendly, perhaps better to say it is a formal and uptight office to work at. No effective communication existed in the team, and management are disorganized. Overturn rate is fairly high, and they have no idea where their projects are heading to. Interview process took more than one hour, mostly by the time consuming paperwork by HR. However, I saw cases like they took so long to hire a temp, but fire by the same day notice due to the policy changed.
