I wholeheartedly agree with the title of this review, but not much else. We certainly are doing everything we can do to improve here in every aspect—both growing our business and doing our best to create and keep jobs for our employees. It’s a delicate balance, and we won’t always get it right, but we will definitely try and in most cases succeed.
I care deeply about the image of this company that everyone has worked so hard to uplift, so it’s difficult to respond to these reviews. All I can say to anyone reading this is that there’s two sides to every coin. We have not been perfect—but we are getting better and actively trying to get better, which most of our employees can attest. This is the nature of all young companies, and the stress but also high potential reward is not for everyone. In the case of this employee, though we appreciate periods of hard work, the disorganization, hostility, attempts to sabotage other employees, and worst of all, video proof of inventory theft make it clear he was “not the right fit.”
For any other prospective employees, here’s our response to some other listed concerns:
Facebook advertising—First we’ve heard of this. Our advertising is pretty straight forward, when there’s a specific deal we’d like to highlight, we make an ad on Facebook. Store managers and corporate directors are heavily involved in choosing what to push. We’ve never made a dishonest ad or encouraged employees to be dishonest about it.
Worklife balance—Retail is a different monster than the 9to5 with its own pros and cons. If there’s a failure here it’s being unclear on what retail hours entail to new employees. There will be periods where extra work is required, but we try to mitigate this by offering PTO to managers/assistant managers and increased pay.
Under-compensation—By far the most dishonest piece in this review. We ensure to match and in most cases beat industry averages. And to compensate for the extra stress and hours, all retail employees are paid extra with bonus opportunities available.
Again, we are not perfect, but no one can claim truly that we’re not trying to both grow our business but also keep our employees, well, employed (and happy, too).
