Pros

I work with some great people, as far as my co-workers are concerned. It's a reliable company, due to the fact that it's the Herald Square location of the store and there will always be a demand for your work. The store has weathered the storm, despite the toughening economy. As an employee of the company, you can find some really great bargains. It's also exciting when we have celebrity visits,as Herald Square is a very high profile location. There are some amazing events held at my location through out the year and those are some of the best moments to work for the company.

Cons

The job is extremely demanding and very difficult to maintain a work/life balance. The schedule is all over the place and inconsistent. It's also very difficult to request off or take a vacation for the week you desire. Overall, it is very difficult to move forward into promotion. In my 4 years as a Group Sales Manager, I've only seen one manager move onto the next level, from my area of the store. The Senior level executives are out of touch and do not realize all of the responsibilities and work load of the Group Sales Manager. It's very disappointing, as it could be a wonderful place to work. However, it is not, and I would NEVER recommend anyone to take a position in the management team. The annual merit increase is a disgrace and even worse, this year they took them away from the entire Junior level Executive staff, though the Senior Executives will still receive theirs.

Pros

There is a good work-life balance.

Cons

Management has been there for YEARS - they don't like innovation or new ideas. For the most part management is not comprised of smart individuals who implement effective change but rather those who are complacent and willing to remain with the company for years and perpetuate its archaic approach to business. Furthermore because of the tendency for managers to stay in their roles for over 20 years, room for growth and advancement is minimal in certain areas.

Pros

Good discounts. The work is mindless. Fellow associates are in the same boat as you, and usually hate the company just as much.

Cons

Plenty. There is little to no communication and the pricing/signing is VERY confusing for us, let alone for customers. Raises are only given once a year and have little to do with your job performance. Plus, they're minimal. The company is clearly very greedy and don't care for their employees.
