Pros

hours and possibly type of product sold and used due to ingredients.

Cons

Hired & Debunked - first day on the job Absolute zero consideration for employment. There is a lot of time spent filing out paperwork and profile questionnaire online. First day on the job - about an hour in training I was requested my passport and cosmo license went home to retrieve docs cause I was told I couldn't start without it. In less than 15 minutes of my drive home received an email that the company is not moving forward with my hiring..... confused and in disbelief I showed up either way within the hour with docs in hand only to be received strangely by the manager. Now I am told I cannot begin till the following week - It didn't matter as they had already made up their insta-mind. This is when I realize I chose the wrong job and lost on other opportunities accepting this one. Hairstylists - Be prepared to be timed on EVERYTHING this includes hair washes. Be prepared to not build client relationships. This company is simply just about selling themselves and maintaining propriety. Extremely corporate, employees are just bees.

Pros

As a part time colorist, my schedule was flexible and I loved always having a full book without having to do any of my own booking or marketing. The team was fun, management was kind, and the pay was really fair. I was wildly impressed with he education was top-- the balayage class was better than ones that I had spent MANY HUNDREDS of my own dollars on. During the first year of covid shut downs, I was able to move to Color Crew, our online customer service team. Working for Madison Reed full time really brought to life the way we live our values and I fell in love with doing hair in a whole new way doing consultations and color corrections via text/phone/email. And then they taught me how to be a recruiter :) I was fully trained and consistently supported in entering an entirely new career in HR. Madison Reed has given me all the tools I needed to thrive.

Cons

I don't have much time to get my hands into hair as much anymore :)

Pros

My time at Madison Reed overall was great. I had a great team and really good rapport with my team members. My direct manager was as transparent has they could be but still did their best to ensure my skills and contributions were not unnoticed. My team members were really unique and made the really great membories for me. The work environment and culture could improve but still has some positive asspects but that was mostly within my own team. Not a lot opportunities to interact with other departments/teams.

Cons

Blatant favortism towards uppermanagement. Even when there are too many complaints/issues brought up. They are just swept under the rug with no action.

Pros

-My immediate team is full of incredible people. -The products are great if you buy directly from the company or from a store. -Benefits and compensation are decent (especially if you negotiate).

Cons

-Constant layoffs in small to medium numbers framed as "restructures" (at least 6 in the last 18 months). The positions eliminated often do not make sense and are frequently backfilled by hiring someone with a slightly different title to get around rehiring regulations. -Leadership says they live the company's values, but there is constant backstabbing, gossip, and politicking going on. -Goals are consistently forecasted incorrectly and leadership demands everyone sacrifices work/life balance to close gaps. Any sort of boundary setting is treated punitively. -The loudest voice in the room gets listened to (especially if they are someone who ingratiates themselves to senior leadership) regardless of whether or not they have experience and knowledge. -Several times, my team has been asked to violate industry laws, even when the requestor knows it would be a violation. -For a late-stage startup that frequently pivots and states initiatives that don't perform well are learning opportunities, there is a lot of blame, finger-pointing, and punishment handed out. -Leadership touts the company's inclusivity, specifically with the percentage of women and BIPOC employed, but there are no BIPOC in senior leadership and 2 of the 3 highest position in marketing are men.

I do not mince words when I say that my team was amazing

Pros

I worked for Madison Reed during a time when we took the company from a small start-up in San Francisco on Shotwell, through its explosive growth over the pandemic, as it became a remote, mid-sized, nationwide growing company, and I couldn't be more grateful for my experience. All companies have their pros and cons, but Madison Reed is a company that seeks to move and speak from the heart. That spoke to me the moment I walked through the doors and was evident within my team and the work we collaborated on together. I had never worked with so many talented, hard-working, and driven women as I did during my time with MR. It's important to note that this applies to folks of all genders, but the WOMEN deserve a shout out because every day we lived and breathed Amy's vision, and that was really special to me, being a woman myself in a corporate environment. I learned more than I ever thought possible and was given opportunity after opportunity for career growth and acquired skills that taught me more than any other company took the time to teach me. I do not mince words when I say that my team was amazing. I have never experienced that before my time at MR, and I am grateful to Amy for creating a place where I spent nearly 5 years of my career growing, learning, and becoming a better person. - Remote working environment was extremely helpful for work-life balance - Always connected with my department and team, through team building events and activities, helpful meetings, and opportunities to collaborate - If you wanted to grow, all you had to do was take initiative and DO IT, I was supported by my manager and dept head - Terrific health + company benefits - Company values that were evident throughout the work and on my team - Opportunity for visibility and to acquire new skills - If you are a self-starter, this place was for you. Don't wait for anyone to tell you what to do, as we were fully empowered to bring the most to our roles and to the company

Cons

We grew fast and at times it felt like not everyone outside of my dept was on the same page. Communication is always so important and there were some folks that didn't embody the values that were in key roles that disrupted flow and energy. While innovation is important, so is the intuitive feeling of a process, product, or experience and those would clash at times. At a certain point, my role no longer aligned with the company budget or my career goals, and that impacted my exit. I have no regrets or negativity because all was for the best and the company was incredible as a whole.

Pros

Company values are very important and genuinely followed by leadership. This company is a clear category disruptor and leader. Marketing investments in growth are measured and thoughtful. Get a lot of opportunity to learn new things.

Cons

Fast paced so the best laid plans can sometimes feel secondary to rush projects. Later stage 'startup' so budgets are scrutinized and profitability is prioritized. Fully remote team with limited exposure to people in-person which makes it very hard to build relationships.
