Pros

The money is good for a social worker

Cons

I couldn't be happier to be out of this job. Coworkers refer to the company as "majailen". Everything you do is monitored but not for quality. All that matters is quantity and profits. Members and their needs are irrelevant. It's impossible to get good treatment for people with carefirst/Magellan insurance as very few providers accept their low rates. You will be frustrated by the constant demands of management that make no sense and change almost daily. You will get emails from management telling you to stop talking and laughing in the office. You will never feel appreciated by management and they publicly shame everyone. Turnover has been among the worst I've experienced, management continues to justify the high turnover as "growing pains" of a start up. Watching 30+ clinicians leave in less than a year is a problem but nobody at Magellan seems to care. They just continue to hire new clinicians through temp agencies. The worst part about this company is that they review their own employees mental health claims. Your coworkers, boss, etc could know exactly what type of treatment you've had and your diagnosis. Magellan could care less about this and likely continues this practice to intimidate their employees. I could go on and on about this company and my experience. It has truly been traumatizing. The money is good but it's not worth the poor treatment not to mention the many ethical dilemmas you will find yourself in.

Pros

A job here is better than being unemployed. The PTO is generous compared to most other companies and many jobs allow you to work remotely most if not all of the time.

Cons

If you accept a job offer, you'll quickly be frustrated with inefficient processes, outdated and ineffective technology and departments that refuse to work together, always "pushing back" on requests because of limited or no resources. Most department store aren't staffed appropriately to meet customer requirements. Check out how many major customers have not renewed their contracts over the last several years. This should tell you something, the customers go to better companies or do it themselves, because Magellan doesn't have technology and infrastructure in place that is capable of doing what the customer needs/wants. When you find a great co worker who really wants to get work done, there are roadblocks because you're dependent on other teams for whom your request is not a priority. If one or both coworkers work from home, there is not technology in place to collaborate, even as simple as sharing screens with Skype for Business or a similar tool. Again, very outdated technology. Most folks who occasionally work from home use personal laptops to remote into their office desktops, ineffective and outdated. If you come from a company that invests in and supports their workers, you'll be frustrated because you won't find that here. You're just a warm body who is a resource to do the task at hand. Management is so stressed out and overworked / burdened that they don't have any incentive or time to make good employees better. They all lack the foresight for investing in their most valuable way of growing the company into the future. As someone else said, "it's not in the budget" is the default for-to reason for saying No to any thing that might make getting the work done more effective and efficient. Oh, they only offer two high-deductible health plans with HSA. Look elsewhere if you need good health insurance.

Pros

You may have the ability to work at home if your work allows. Good office location in the Richmond location if not.

Cons

The management in this company is toxic. No true leadership. They manage by fear and allow others to do so. There are no consistencies or accountability. Benefits are awful as well. Think very hard before accepting a job here.
