Pretty standard office job

Pros

Good atmosphere of friendly co-workers, senior fellows are always willing to spare time for you to talk. Get to get the inside scoop on a lot of city issues.

Cons

Compensation is insufficient for a midtown Manhattan office. Seems like the senior fellows have pretty cushy incomes, staffers are young and get paid way, way, way less.

Pros

You get to work with a lot of smart people who are really engaging, you can learn a lot from your work because the Institute holds its output to a very high standard

Cons

Since people work in different areas, it can feel like different parts of the institute are isolated from each other. You have to go out of your way to get to know people who don't work in your area/develop relationships with them
