Pros

Working busy season hours year round

Cons

The new Chicago/Deerfield office is a disaster. They have no idea how to motivate employees - forget to hire kids out of college for 2 years in row resulting in significant staffing issues. 80% of the audit staff from staff to senior manager have left in the last 6 months. Pay is below market competition by $20k on avg.

Pros

1. Bagels on Wednesdays. 2. You can openly date your coworkers/partners/lower level employees.

Cons

1. Benefits are a joke: very expensive health insurance and joke of a 401k match which doesn't even vest for 5 years. Don't get fooled by a slightly higher base. 2. Lack of bright people. 3. Scheduling is preposterous, absurd time/client/location conflicts and overscheduling all the time. The worst. 4. CPA bonus is 40% of what big firms offer + you only get half of it right away another half a year later if you (a) still work there (b) remind them. Exam fees or study materials are not reimbursed. 5. Performance bonus is a joke and is also paid in two parts over 6 months. Not an incentive. 6. Bonuses and promotions work in very mysterious ways, no transparency whatsoever. 7. Very unprofessional environment, comes from the top. 8. Incompetent managers, often no technical, managerial or people skills, Non-CPAs managers/senior managers are not a rarity 9. Extreme voluntary turnover, people no longer get laid off in April, there is simply no need for that. 10. Sub-par client base 11. 50% of workload is administrative & word processing 12. Useless training, very poor quality 13. No diversity 14. Does not do much to your resume or career

Total Disappointment

Pros

decent salary and benefits - that's about it

Cons

I am commenting on what I experienced. Employees in other locations may have different experiences: Upper management had no respect for the staff and were not held accountable for their actions (HR was ineffective) . It was common for staff to stay in the office until 1:00 - 2:00 in the morning. There was no "go to" person for technical guidance. Training was subpar. In summary, a total SWEATSHOP.
