Pros

The people here were very friendly and easy going. Relaxed work environment. Good comradery between coworkers.

Cons

Part time, not always enough hours to satisfy the money I wanted to be making. This was most likely because of work study.

Pros

Marist is a fantastic community. There is a great range of work being done here on the academic side that drives the administrative areas and in some cases the reverse is true. Innovations and interesting new technology are common, especially with Marist's close relationship with IBM. The Marist community is involved in a number of charity, entertainment, and educational events; of which most staff can take advantage. Marist folk are generally very friendly and welcoming. Though the cafeteria had gone downhill recently, it still offers buffet-style lunch for $4.50 to employees. The gym is available during certain hours, and there are plenty of beautiful places to walk or enjoy some quiet time. Though the library is lacking in physical material, a number of research databases are available with full-text articles.

Cons

Marist suffers from some of the same problems as other smaller schools: sometimes it is difficult to get funding for projects. People who have worked here for a number of years often have trouble adapting to changes as the college grows and evolves into what may one day be a large university. Old-timers (both faculty and staff) have seen the college turn from a relaxed academic institution to an aggressive academic business.

Pros

Great atmosphere, students are smart and enthusiastic. Although Poughkeepsie is not the prettiest city in New York, Marist College has a beautiful campus. It is well groomed and right on the Hudson River. There are also quite a few attractions in the surrounding area. Great colleagues; there are some really stellar people that work at Marist. Office hours for professors can be time consuming, but they are a truly great way of connecting professors with students.

Cons

The cafeteria and campus food is lousy. The pay could definitely be better. There is a disconnect between departments and schools. There needs to be more communication in that area.
