Pros

Maritz is a relaxed environment that tends to promote from within. This sounds great in theory, but if you start to peel away the onion you realize this means everyone in every position within MITS has come from the service desk and has received very little training in their new role. This leads to poor service for our clients, very little sense of responsibility, and a whole lot of frustration all around.

Cons

The management style gives the illusion that they are there for your best interest and are always looking for feedback. In reality, they are looking for corporately canned responses that they can drive up the management chain. If you dare give them legitimate feedback with the intent to help, you'll find yourself in a position without advancement. If you can schmooze with the right people, you'll get a paycheck until the company goes under. Tread lightly.

We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback. We do think it’s important to promote from within, and each department has a training budget for professional development. We never want to hear that employees don’t feel heard, which is why we have monthly focus groups with our Senior VP to address ideas and concerns around internal solutions and dynamics. If you’d like to share more feedback offline, we’d welcome a conversation. Please contact your HR Partner to discuss.

Pros

It is a good place to start your career. You learn a lot of information and get a good idea of how the business world works. If you're lucky, you have a good relationship with big name clients. SOME of the people are knowledgeable and fun to work with. They spend time and money on happy hours, picnics, and other random team building exercises. We get a decent PTO package - its better if you know the right people.

Cons

Pay is not good. They want people to do A LOT of work for very little, then they want to give you a 1% raise for all your efforts. I am guessing it cant be much higher than that since the "Executive Team" just keeps expanding with random new people. The benefits could be better for a company that has been around for a long time and is on the Best Places to Work list. You are offered health, dental, PTO, etc. but its just mediocre. They keep people who have been in the same position for 25 years, which wouldn't be a problem and might be beneficial, BUT the people are lazy and no longer fit to do their job. I think the newest President recognizes this and has tried to purge some of the negativity and people who are still using typewrites to complete their job because they wont change their ways or work on being efficient. Managers should have to be accountable for their employees being lazy and negative, but they aren't because most of them are not aware of what is going on around them If you happen to get a mediocre manager, your suggestions, questions, comments, and concerns will be filed in his/her circular file because at Maritz you don't want to draw attention to the flaws. They just pretend everything is fine. Moving within the company is like pulling teeth unless you know someone willing to help you. OR, they want someone who has TONS of experience and specific requirements, but then tell you you'll get a $2 an hour raise - no thanks. No departments within the company are ever on the same page. IT, operations, communications, brand, sales...the list goes on. Nobody is on the same page which causes chaos within the company and our clients can see that.

Pros

There are absolutely no Pros that I can think of.

Cons

Upper Management is horrible! Its all about who you know and who you can stab in the back.
