Company is adrift

Pros

There is the opportunity to work with some good people and there are some good analysts still left there. The company offers a very high level of service to clients. Paid holiday as company shuts down between Christmas and New Year's. Each team is fairly autonomous, so if you are lucky, you can work with some good people and have a good manager. Maritz has a 'small town' feel, with everything good and bad that goes along with that. The core business is large scale multi-year contract tracking programs. If you're looking for something with a steady pace, this is the place.

Cons

Mid to upper management is ossified and out of touch with the rest of the industry. Maritz is finding it hard to compete in the market and is going through round after round of layoffs and "restructuring." The organization only recently realized it can't continue to rely on postal and phone studies, and are not sure what to do about it. Technology and processes are antiquated, and office politics is the only consistent organizational principle. If you have friends in the right places you can do no wrong. Otherwise, keep your head down and hope nobody notices you. While there are some good managers, others are shockingly inept and unprofessional.

Worst Reorg Ever!

Pros

My office has a wonderful view of the wooded area that surround the campus

Cons

I am not sure how we can grow or even compete when everyone is leaving. The question asked most is "who turned in their resignation today?" So much time is being wasted on discussing the poor state of the company. With morale so bad these discussions have become therapeutic for many. I can no longer stand behind the decisions this company continues to make with my workers. Doing so only makes me look like a lier and a fool. The reorganization had to be the most poorly planned, communicated and executed reorganization in the history of reorganizations.

Pros

Coworkers are actually very caring people

Cons

Executive management is very much out of touch with reality. Years of siphoning profits without investing in people and technology have made this company obsolete. Company is now scrambling to forge partnerships to stay afloat. Communication is non-existent. COO from outside of St. Louis continues to press his self-serving agenda and will likely drive remaining talent to leave the company. No opportunity for career advancement unless your a friend of one of the few top executives.
