Great Place to Work!

Pros

Matterport is quickly growing so it is an exciting time to work here. Matterport really cares about personal career growth of its employees which is really hard to find these days. Because we are still a young company, everyone's voice is heard and you can really make an impact! The perks are nice (although kind of expected in this area), and the management team is accessible, friendly, and open.

Cons

Being a Bay Area tech start up, there are a lot of expectations for companies to have this energetic and vibrant culture. I think Matterport's Execs put in a lot of effort to try and facilitate a fun and engaging work environment, but I don't think it always works. Because our company is largely comprised of engineers. I think there is room for improvement in the planned functions. We have to set ourselves apart from the other tech start ups in the area, and I think Matterport only does enough to stay competitive, instead of trying to really wow their employees and prospects. Additionally, I think they could do a better job of celebrating and rewarding employees regularly, with unexpected surprises, bonuses, swag, a day off, or thank yous. SHOW your employees that you appreciate them!

Pros

- Challenging work environment with a lot of smart people - Fair interview process that doesn't at all feel like an interrogation - Cutting edge work - Lunch provided every day - Friendly people

Cons

- Technical debt often gets put on the back burner - Not a lot of feedback on work - Management is overloaded on the software side - Not a close team feeling - Kind of expected to be available at all times - Work days can easily by 9 or 10 hours

Negative reviews reflect reality of the company

Pros

You have the standard Silicon Valley company perks like free lunch, membership to the gym, dry cleaning service, caltrain pass, and all you can drink coffee through out the day. The employees at Matterport are all very intelligent and are working hard to make the company successful.

Cons

The two negative reviews about the company are correct. They have had a revolving door of execs which suggests either a poor ability to select talent or a blame culture at the highest levels. Also, they really take advantage of At-Will Employment law in California. You will receive zero notice regarding your performance and will be let go without notice.

I wish I knew who you are so we could talk directly -- feel free to come talk if you'd like. It sounds like someone has left us that you felt strongly about . But for the last year, we've built the executive team and no one in that group has left us. We think we've got the executive talent for the next phase of the company and they are a highly engaged group. We're actively watching our turnover and it's now running at about 10% -- greatly under metrics for the Silicon Valley and our peer companies -- but up from a really low level in the past. Sometimes, it just seems like there is turnover when someone you likes leaves. It's hard but occassionally necessary in a growing company. Hopefully these will be few and far between...
