Pros

You don't expect or need anything in the way of benefits or paid/earned time off (external employee benefits are prohibitively expensive). Decent hourly wage.

Cons

Way too few or no hours available (this stint). Treated as but not paid as an on call nurse (last stint). Unusable benefits due to fluctuating hours and expense. Nurses required to fulfill monthly/annual training requirements off of the clock, unpaid training. Lack of direct access to clinical support, requests for clinical guidance/support are filtered through recruiters.

Pros

The patients are amazing people. The recruiters and other staff are usually friendly.

Cons

If you work as a CNA, LPN, RN with Maxim. Expect your phone to ring multiple times each day (on average 5 or 6 times), at any hour of the day (I have received calls passed 11o'clock at night on my ONE day off a week) for an unlimited number of reasons (someone called off can you pick up their shift that starts in an hour? can you meet with a new client today? call us, we have a question about scheduling you with a few different clients this month. can you do an emergency shift with a client that is 20 miles from where you are now? we have a correction for you to make in the office. yadda yadda). there is NO boundaries between your work life and your personal life. I have had them call on days where I have given them weeks heads up that I am going to a wedding in another state, it is my toddlers birthday, my mother is having surgery, I have my final exam for college classes today, whatever the case may be, yet they will still call you multiple times, sometimes multiple times within the hour to ask if you can do shifts or what not. (Granted they don't have it any easier, and it is their job, but it is just miserable to deal with). The benefits are horrible. Pay is better at other places, not competitive with wages at all. The only reason I stay is because I have bonded so well with my clients and know they don't want to lose ANOTHER great caregiver.
