Pros

No weekends Paid holidays Nice equipment

Cons

Similar to any other call center job. The hours are decent and the equipment is nice. No weekends or nights. You also get bank holidays off with pay. One drawback is their attendance policy is terrible. There’s mandatory overtime that they don’t tell you about during training. Your schedule is also switched daily. Also, in order to get paid for holidays you can’t call off the day after. You accrue attendance points if you call off due to an emergency. They also take your pto hours to cover for the hours missed. Training could be better. Most people can’t learn staring at slides for 8 hours. You’ll take a lot of heartbreaking, tearjerking calls that can sometimes ruin your day. My biggest issue with the job was the fact that you’re forced to read a script like a robot. Most callers don’t really want to hear it nor do they care. It can get nerve wrecking when dealing with a caller that’s in a rush. There is no reason to still force call center employees to read a script verbatim in 2023. There’s also a lot of small details to remember on calls and it can all get overwhelming. The way supervisors micromanage you is ridiculous. I have had irate customers literally call us “robots”. I can’t even blame them. Also if you decide to get benefits it’ll cost a huge chunk of your pay. The pay wasn’t great either considering the cost of living in Austin. 80% of employees don’t last more than a few months and it makes sense.

Pros

No pros the job is all about keeping the people calling back over and over

Cons

No first call resolution allowed, basically HHSC or Maximus doesn’t want us to resolve issues right away they want us to give the least information as possible so the applicant can call back it’s called job security. I have lots of experience in leadership and I was not allowed to resolve issues that were important for the clients to know. I felt stuck snd not able to do what the job needs for the applicant and the state workers wouldn’t have they’re work cut out for them. The states can not staff enough workers because of Maximus business ways of thinking. Maximus should allow the reps to do more as they train us to so the state workers get help. This is the worst place I worked because I thought I was gonna help the problem the HHSC has with so many applicants having to wait so long for a answer to an application but instead I couldn’t help but see and feel I was part of the problem because Maximus wants job security. In sane

Pros

If you want to get fired during training, for no reason, this job is for you!

Cons

I was in training for a VA case builder position. I was so proud that I got a position where I could be of service to our vets. Things started off well. The training was indepth and I was learning lots of new things. The last week of my employment, we were given report cards. I had things I needed to improve on, so did everyone, but was assured that this was our first evaluation, and that we had several more weeks of training to learn and grow in this position. However; only one day of receiving my report card, the manager called me up and told me that I was terminated immediately. I was shell shocked. I couldn't believe the words I was hearing. Especially after being told the previous day, not to worry about our first report card grades. I asked the manager why I was fired and he refused to let me know. I feel that if I'm going to be fired, I am at least owed an explanation. I still had over two months of training left, and while I was not perfect, I was still learning and growing in this position. Apparently VES expects you to be perfect at a job that requires several months of training, in only a few days. VES doesn't care about the livelihoods of their employees, much less the vets they supposedly assist with their disability claims.
