Pros

Good Job if you are a good Service Tech with no desire for growth or promotion. You are paid to be on call even if there are no calls (40 hrs week every week) and you are paid overtime. As long as you keep things running & your customers happy management has little to do with you.

Cons

On call 24/7, one week on one week off. Partner can make or break this arrangement for you depending on his strengths and ability to support you. Car allowance is via Runzhimer which pays you less than the Govt rate.

Pros

Great people who are passionate about their jobs Even though there are layers of management, senior management seems accessible Lots of opportunity if you are willing to pursue it

Cons

Change takes time due to "decision by committee" -- mid-level managers are not given enough autonomy to make decisions very risk aversive

Pros

The senior staff and long term employees make you feel very welcome and at home. Initially, it's a very friendly office. The environment is clean, well kept and well lit. Employees are permitted to work very flexible hours as well as remotely. Portico offers various social activities several times each month. They encourage employees to have fun while working, such as a practical joke being played on an unsuspecting manager. There always seems to be food around. Employees also have the opportunity to order lunch from the restaurant of the day and have it delivered. Starbucks coffee!

Cons

None of the work areas are ergonomically correct and almost none are quiet. When the west coast employees visit, they sit in a small room that has no windows. Most of the seating there consists of straight chairs without cushions or wheels. A large amount of the analytical staff is made up of fresh out of college, students who have no health care or provider knowledge, let alone client facing skills. Some of the management are in serious need of managerial educations with regard to employee rights, client facing skills and subordinate growth. Their inability to estimate project completion wrecks havoc on their individual team members' balance of family and work life. Job responsibilities are very unclear throughout the company. Portico tends to strive on deadlines as literal drop dead dates. Many employees are working 80 and 90 hour weeks for months on end. Some of the software that has been delivered to the client is downright embarrassing! Portico has no QA or testing teams in place.
