Pros

Office is in the basement, but good work from home policy, and free bus pass. People are good but since most are telecommuting don't see them often

Cons

Typical big corp, our most valuable asset is our people, until we don't need them, also firm is pretty cheap, wait 3 months for insurance - only manager level get bonuses

Pros

McKesson is a place where there are amazing things happening and you've got the freedom to get involved with as many as you'd like. That's a rare thing in my experience. The comp is above average, the bonus structure is generous, and the benefits are great (I remember having an obscene amount of vacation time). Many of the individuals at the lower levels are very sharp and just interesting people to interact with.

Cons

The ONE thing that McKesson does a TERRIBLE job with is internal talent development. They are quite generous with training and senior access, but someone needs to die for you to get a promotion. My theory was that, since McK grows through acquisitions, they tend to get very bloated with mid/senior managers from targets that they can't fire. To put it in context: the person in charge of assigning cubes was an SVP (isn't that something you could do with an excel Macro?). The result is that very bright junior people come in, perform, get wonderful training, and then walk out the door. Of the three people I was hired with, we all have three things in common: 1) We had the best employment experience and training at McK. 2) We are all very successful leaders in the healthcare information technology space now. 3) None of us are still with Mckesson.

Pros

If you don't have a life, and you really don't want one, then this is the place for you. The upper management doesn't have a clue.

Cons

The upper management doesn't have a clue in this company. One month they are downsizing from 4 to 2 datacenters. After 18 months of migration projects to get all the servers, proper training, beef up the infrastructure, and hire more staff, then they decide that this was a bad idea and start re-hiring for the positions that they just laid off....but they won't hire any of the people they laid off. After all this crap, years later, they decide that this whole datacenter consolidation thing was a good idea and consolidate one of the original 2 that they kept with another. This is after they spent a billion or so beefing up this datacenter with infrastructure and staff. They would spend millions of dollars on software packages that were never used and no one knew how to use. They worked you to the bone. Horrible....horrible place to work.
