Pros

Compensation was OK - just OK. Health care and retirement are good. The buildings: PDX headquarters & SEA headquarters are quite nice.

Cons

The title says it all! The "C" level managers are leaders and are quite good. The Mid-Level management is the worst that I have experienced in my entire 30-year career. These individuals are, for lack of a better term, arrogant morons. The employee surveys that we took reinforced this fact every year: our managers were some of the worst (had the lowest recorded scores) of any managers that the survey company had ever seen! When we pointed out to the managers how they could improve their performance as managers and/or improve employee moral, we were either fired, laid-off, or "written-up". When we sought other employment - as most disgruntled employees do - we were fired on the spot if our managers found out (or even suspected) this fact.

Pros

Benefits, bonding capacity, marketing material, facilities, whatever is left of their brand, their political leverage and the quality of their field level staff. Their lower management and people in the trenches, whats left of them, are true professionals who still embrace the original McKinstry culture that led to their success. Three main owners are good guys.

Cons

Everyone from the middle management to the VP level are either incompetent or self serving ego maniacs. There is no one left at that level who embraces the original value system of the company or who has any integrity. It's a cut throat and stressful environment to work in. Their value proposition has been over marketed and under delivered, they can't compete in the marketplace. All of their cuts have been at the project management level and all of their hires have been at the manager/executive level yet they wonder why they have an overhead problem. No one takes them seriously anymore, I doubt they'll be a strong contingent in the coming years. They are no longer cutting edge and their sales people are blow hards with a pitch thats grown tired. The three owners have lost control to a group of money hungry narcissists. There is only a shadow of a company that was once in the top 10 places to work in Washington State. Its pathetic and disheartening to watch.
