Pros

Meditech has a great work environment and the people you will work with are generally fun (this doesn't necessarily mean they are good employees, but they are fun). It is basically impossible to get fired (also a con since you will be working with people that would have been fired from other jobs) and the work/life balance is great. They are generous with sick and vacation days and as long as you are not grossly incompetent you will be able to work flex hours and work from home two days a week. The bonuses are generous and the retirement plan is pretty good.

Cons

If you stay here more than a couple years as a developer, you will be obsolete to the rest of the industry. Meditech develops all (and I do mean all...word processor, email client, file system, spreadsheet, etc) their software in house using the Meditech programming language. In an industry full of incredible 3rd party tools and IDEs, you will have access to none of them as a developer at Meditech. Forget everything you learned in college (SQL/Java/.NET) because it is not applicable at Meditech. In addition to being forced to use under-powered, obsolete, technology, pay is a joke. Your base pay at Meditech is going to be extremely low for the industry. The generous bonuses and time off help, but you are still going to be making about 50-75% of your peers that work with mainstream technologies. To some people this might be fine because you will not have to do that much work and you will be working in a zero-stress environment. To those looking for a position outside of development at Meditech, the pros greatly outweigh the cons. It is a great place to break into the healthcare industry and a great place to work. For those in a technical field, look elsewhere for employment before it is too late.

Pros

1. Job security - When it comes to job security you really can't get too much more secure in the business world than a medical software company these days. 2. Respect for work/life balance - If you're a woman planning on having a family someday Meditech definitely is a great place to be. They will let you take 3 months maternity leave and add any built up sick time to that. There's also a decent amount of respect for goings on outside of work. It can vary depending on your group though and which supervisor you're under. 3. Paid holidays - You get 12 paid holidays a year, and none of them are "floating." I've always thought that was cheap of companies to do to employees so its nice you don't have to choose between holidays. 4. Young company - If you're fresh out of college or in your 20's it can be nice to work in a company with other younger people too. There's plenty of that at Meditech. They hire big right out of college, but there's a lot of turnover once people hit 1-3 years so most of those hires leave after a few years.

Cons

1. Salary - Salaries at Meditech are known in the industry for not being very good. You can make more money working at a hospital or as a consultant, or at another software company. 2. Can be a strange place to work - Its a software company so this can kind of be expected but its definitely still a con. 3. Upper management is stuck in their ways - The higher-ups all firmly believe that whatever they did to get them to being the successful company they are today is what they should stick to. However it would be really refreshing to see them adopt a more new age approach to running things, and even better if they infused some younger blood into upper management to get fresh ideas in there. 4. No 401k - They do have profit sharing, but it takes 6 years to be fully vested and get all that money. 5. Stingy with some company resources - From office supplies to the 1980's phones it seems the company doesn't invest all that much of its resources in things that you use and rely on every day. The network goes down all the time too...But then again they put on a yearly 2 day company picnic that I've heard costs them a million dollars. Doesn't seem to make sense to me. 6. Lack of privacy - Open email system and low cube walls mean whatever you do is right out there for others to read and see. 7. Feels like you're working in the movie office space, no joke.
