Pros

-This is a great place to start out a career as they hire a number of college grads right out of school with little to no experience. -The people on your teams tend to be great and I’ve met many great people during my time at Medpace.

Cons

-While they hire people right out of college they 10000% low ball you in salary with absolutely no room to negotiate. People who stay in the company don’t see the rewards for their hard work as quickly as other companies and is still below average for industry standard. They also bring in people with less industry experience but pay them more than their loyal employees. -workload is completely unmanageable unless you’re manager goes to bat for you (even then it usually doesn’t help) You are put on a number of studies and given tasks outside of your scope. -through Covid-19 instead of taking pay cuts and trying to save employees jobs they did mass layoffs completely unannounced with little to no explanation. Even managers didn’t know their direct reports were going to be laid off until it happened. I would have liked to see the CEO take a pay cut instead of promoting his sons girlfriend to save her job right before the layoffs. Or jetting off to his house in Florida to still continuing to force employees to work. -working from home was never an option but the fact that employees were forced to go to work and/or take vacation time if they chose to stay home through a pandemic is outrageous. Times are changing and medpace policy’s should as well. -free lunches are a thing of the past so don’t pay attention to those “pros” previously posted -it is an expectation for senior employees to train new hires even while trying to manage all of the projects that are assigned to them. Word of advice- don’t be too good at your job or you will burn out with the amount of work given to you. -I’d suggest not driving to work while construction on the site is occurring. A number of people have reported nails/screws in their tires and when reported to HR got a “sucks time be you” response. Again if you are making people come to the office during a pandemic it only makes sense to at least sweep up a constitution zone or offer to reimburse for tire/car damage. -there have been a number of instances where the CEO has declined a promotion, bonus, change of work hours due to child care, etc. for no apparent reason even when managers, directors and his wife approved them. Showing a little love for your employees goes a long way but sadly people will continue to leave until things change.

Medpace Response

Wow! We are very taken back and saddened to hear about your experience with Medpace. Although we are disappointed to hear that you had a negative experience within the organization, we understand that the high standards to which we ask our employees to excel at are not for everyone. This is what we believe distinguishes us from other CROs. We work hard to ensure we are place that attracts employees not just for the short term, but are a place that our associates can grow in their career. We recognize that flexibility is needed, which is why we do offer “flex-time”, a benefit that still gives employees the ability to have a flexible schedule that encourages a well-balanced work/home life. During the uncertainty of COVID-19, we did allow our staff to work remotely for 2 months to ensure the safety of our employees. We have slowly started re-opening our offices to a staggered schedule at 50% capacity. Although we had maintained our full workforce with full pay for the initial weeks of the various lockdowns, despite the fact that many of our positions cannot be performed if our campus is not open, unfortunately this is not a sustainable long-term option. It was a very difficult decision to release some of our on-campus staff, and we hope that the severance packages offered to them will help in part to sustain during a difficult economic time for everyone. Although we loved offering free lunch daily to our employees, we are complying with CDC guidelines and felt it best to close down the lunch buffet for the time being – a buffet doesn’t seem like a smart way to protect the health of our employees  We are very grateful to have a leadership team that puts the people of the organization first. Contrary to your comments, we consistently work with our Compensation and Benefits team to review salary and benchmarks to assure we are aligned with the market while also being competitive in the industry. We do acknowledge that Medpace is not a fit for everyone, and we are okay with that. Every employee has different needs, and it is unrealistic to think we can meet all of them. However, we always try our best to make every employee feel valued and satisfied in their position at the organization. We encourage all employees to address concerns with their manager or HR representative while employed with us so we can try to fix any issues that may arise. It is apparent that Medpace was not the best fit for you, but we wish you luck in your future endeavors.

Pros

This is a great company for those with little to no experience as a CRA because Medpace provides a very rigorous and detailed training period, which lasts for 6 months. During that time, you will mock all different types of visits you will perform, have the opportunity to utilize your experienced co-workers, and go on training trips to shadow other CRAs. The Dallas office is very laid back and everyone feels very comfortable approaching each other with work questions, which is a very important part about this job. The wear is business casual when in the office and business professional on-site. The average CRA age is probably around 25 years old, so you get a healthy mix of young and intelligent professionals that are also social. The traveling is a HUGE bonus, some people say that their personal life is compromised, but I disagree. I think there are times where I definitely miss home but those are few and far between. I've traveled many places around the US, get to stay in beautiful resorts, eat at 5 star restaurants, and enjoy the city I'm in. It's still a ton of work while traveling, so make the best of it and enjoy your open evenings out in the city. There is a compensation system in place which is actually hugely beneficial, some CRAs will pull in 20-30k extra to year but this will not be implemented until around 2 years after you join due to the time you take to train and the time needed to build up your experience.

Cons

Recently, Medpace has undergone a change where all CRAs under 47k are moved to hourly, which means there are no more sick days and there is NO PAID OVERTIME. If you're training or monitoring, you are definitely surpassing the 40 hours a week, but you will not at all be compensated for that. This is a recent change that many people are upset, but things are still being figured out so hopefully there is some good that comes out of this change. If you mess up once, you're out. This can be both a good and bad thing. I personally see it as good because it keeps me on my toes and reminds me that though my job is mentally stimulating, interesting, and important, there is someone just as experienced ready to take my place. Though, most people see this as bad because obviously mistakes happen, reports get turned in late, mocks don't go well etc. It is very "easy" to get fired in training, but if you can make it out, you're golden. The turnover rate for this job is absolutely ridiculous. Medpace pays almost half what other CROs pay and they don't seem to really care, it just means that once you feel you're important and trained enough to earn more, you're forced to quit or accept always having a below industry salary. Typically, people leave once they become CRA IIIs because the company aims to only pay you 60,000 annually (they'll bring up the annual comps but every company has that) while you can just quit with enough experience and immediately double your pay elsewhere. It seems the company keeps the pay low because it means not many people climb up to leadership positions, so those people seem to stay there and nothing new is implemented in the company.

Pros

Training program for entry-level associates - not the best training program, but it'll work to get you what you need to start off. It's certainly easy enough to get through and several people have slipped through the cracks over time. Having said this, if you have a fair bit of competence then you'll be fine - if you don't, you'll probably be fine. The people of the company can be incredible. The only reason I've stayed as long as I have. This company is nothing more than a leaping platform for your career. You may be fortunate enough to get on the right side of the ladder, but that'll require you to be submissive and malleable. These are the most objective words I can find in all honesty. All in all, it's a good starting company, but if you have any sense of self, intelligence, and a desire to flourish in an industry where the sky is the limit, then this company is not for you. I can not emphasize intelligence enough. There are plenty of smart people in this company, but these people are not located within the Clinical Operations unit.

Cons

A company who's trajectory appears to be trending up, but upon closer examination shows significant issues within its infrastructure. You will not have much to do after your training process, but then it will pick up. Eventually you'll be spread so thin that you'll forget where you live. This is not so much an issue as it's a prevalent aspect of CRA life. The biggest issue is that you're working hard for effectively no reason. There is no such thing as working hard and getting ahead in this company. You can receive the highest of praises from all of your direct reports - the same reports that disseminate their praises to your direct supervisor - but it will not yield you anything in the way of progress. If you stick around past two years you will understand. For a good while it will be great, and everything will seem surreal. Time will prove that your chances of progress are low unless you're willing to be a puppeteer - and even that is based on chance.
