Pros

- On-site gym - lower management and colleagues can be wonderful depending on your team

Cons

Where to begin… I was at Medpace for well over a decade and was let go with a recent sweeping lay off due to non-compliance with the work from home policy. I can completely understand being let go for noncompliance with company policy, but the way they went about things was extremely unprofessional and showed the true importance of the bottom dollar to the company over any employee regardless of their tenure, performance, or dedication to the company. Following COVID (during which the company did major lay offs in 2020 and hired in folks making a fraction of those laid off and expected the more senior employees to work themselves to the bone to keep up - which I did, now regrettably so) they instituted a hybrid work from home schedule in that employees were allowed to work from home 8 days a month, plus an additional 8 days a year that could be used to work from home at any time as well. I fully admit to non-compliance of this policy and my direct supervisor was aware of this and didn’t encourage me to be in the office more due to personal/family situations I had going on at the time - not that I blame them for any of this as they are just a cog in this machine as well. I routinely asked if I was being missed in the office, if anyone was saying that were looking for me and unable to reach me, very much trying to ensure if there were any issues, that I could mitigate them when they arose. I was told no one ever made complaints and during all 10+ years at the company, I received rave performance evaluations and was continually told how much of an asset I was to my team, and even told during almost every performance eval that they didn’t even have guidance or suggestions for me to improve. Skip to the beginning of 2024 and we were told that all employees needed to start coming into the office on Tuesdays for “together Tuesdays” so I made sure to be compliant with that schedule. I have read this elsewhere posted by another employee that during the first quarterly meeting of the year, the president of the company indicated that they wanted to slim the workforce by 1% during 2024. I didn’t listen to the meeting recording, so this is based of another employees remembrance. When bonus and merit info began to be released to upper management in February, there were rumblings of people being worried about a mass exodus after the info was released to all employees as the numbers were shockingly low compared to other years even though revenue was doing well. Prior to the release of the bonus and merit raise info being released to all employees, I was told that as a means to “reward” employees who came to the office more frequently than required, they ran an audit of badge accesses on campus and found that many employees were not compliant with the WFH policy. So instead of using this as a reward system, it was used as a means to slim the workforce, in my opinion. Those that were not compliant with the WFH policy were initially told in early March 2024 that they were not receiving their bonus or merit raise, and they needed to become compliant with the policy, which I did immediately and was still let go around mid-March. It is my understanding that I am among MANY senior, exemplary employees who also were blindsided by this decision. So beware, keep all correspondence documenting any decisions made about anything to do with your employment and ultimately always look out for yourself, because in my opinion, Medpace does not value employees regardless of what they have given of themselves to this company.

We are saddened by your view of Medpace and taken back by your comments. Regarding our new Together Tuesday, this is a day of the week to maximize collaboration and assure predictable interaction for all associates, including those who are completely office-based. Like many companies in the US, we feel that in office collaboration can be beneficial – especially for new joiners! As Medpace is in a highly regulated industry, we hold our employees to the highest level of compliance with all Medpace policies. Failure to comply with any Medpace policy, for example the Remote Work Policy, may impact eligibility for discretionary bonus, merit, or employment.

Pros

Coworkers are helpful friendly and direct manager is very good.

Cons

Supervisor is overbearing and does not seem to understand job description. During staff meetings they are dismissive of questions and does not respond well to constructive criticism in regards to changes. There have been numerous changes to job responsibilities without increased time to complete tasks. Supervisor does not seem aware of the amount of work that goes into assignments and continues to change processes without clear explanation of why changes are being made. Our department has hired multiple people the past year and the amount of work has not decreased at all but rather increased. An announcement was made from HR regarding raises and bonuses stating “the cost of living has dramatically decreased over the last year” amongst other passive aggressive statements basically as a warning that we were going to get nothing. In what world has the cost of living decreased? With every quarterly meeting with the CEO he talks about increased revenue and how well Medpace is doing. This was not reflected in any raises or bonuses in our department despite all the additional tasks we have taken on in the past year.

We are saddened by your thoughts about the organization. We have a designated team that regularly reviews our compensation and benefits to ensure we are being competitive within our industry. We do encourage all employees with workload issues or work flexibility issues to speak directly to their line manager. Any recommendations you have on improving our processes or communication can be sent to your Human Resources representative. We are always looking to address concerns and hear new ideas.

Pros

Location (central Cincinnati), parking (plentiful, free), office space (modern, secure, clean), gym, variety of free drinks, food trucks, events, relaxed dress code, great opportunity to gain new skills and experience.

Cons

Workforce: not balanced in my opinion. To reduce expenses, Medpace hires a lot of people right out of school. Many of these folks are genius smart which is a good thing but are often lacking in soft skills (social, communication, etc.) Medpace could use a more diverse, experienced, seasoned workforce or, at least, professional development training for new hires. Communication: seriously lacking both within departments and between departments. I'm talking about interpersonal communication not quarterly meetings, email announcements, etc. Layoffs: Medpace let many staff go during COVID-19 when other options were available. Other: lack of training, high turnover rate. Overall, I think Medpace has grown too big, too fast especially since it went public in 2016. Upper management is struggling to keep up with all that goes with hiring hundreds of new people every year. Hopefully things will settle eventually.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re happy to hear you enjoyed the perks of working in our Cincinnati office. We’re sorry to hear you feel there is negativity within the organization. You are correct in stating that we have grown drastically over the last several years. We take our mission to accelerate the global development of safe and effective therapeutics seriously and welcome the growth that comes with it despite potential times of high volume. We do focus a lot of our recruitment efforts on hiring entry level staff and our structure allows for significant advancement once employees transition into experienced roles. We have found great success with hiring individuals with limited experience. We are one of the only CROs that will take on Clinical Research Associates with no prior CRO experience. We have a fantastic training program in place to ensure we can develop our associates into becoming successful employees within the industry. In regard to your comment about COVID-19, Medpace, like a lot of businesses, has had to make some very difficult decisions. Although we had maintained our full workforce with full pay for the initial weeks of the various lockdowns, this was not a sustainable long-term option. It was a very difficult decision to release some of our on-campus staff, and we hope that the severance packages offered to them will help in part to sustain during a difficult economic time for everyone. We are starting to operate “business as usual” and are confident we will be able to continue our growth as the year continues. As for your advice to HR, Nellie, we always respond professionally to these reviews. Sarcasm is not intended (and may be in the ear of the reader) but sometimes a little humor is needed.  We understand that most of the time when people take the time to leave a review it is because they want to vent about something that we were either not aware of while they were employed by us or that we could not address in exactly the way they desired. This forum allows that opportunity and we understand and appreciate that!
