Pros

You get to help a lot of people, which is great if you are service-minded!

Cons

- Corporate only thinks & cares about the bottom line... treats everybody and everything like trash unless they are hoping you would be a revenue stream..No respect... no professionalism... no decency. - patients are people not bags of money, and should be afforded good care even if they cannot pay for it! They should. It be discharged from the ICU if it's detrimental to their health and doctors should not be pressured to d/c. - patients who have poor English should not be asked to bring their own translators or their children to explain what the doctor says... it's wrong & may lead to problems. - giving employees free lunches 2-3 times a year does not do a good job at making them feel valued when each nurse and each staffer is working the job usually done by 2-3 other health professionals.... a bonus would... and pay that's near to market value... and good health coverage that does not get more expensive year after year while the paltry salary increase that's coughed up very irregularly does not cover the difference.

Pros

Some great nurses work here, and I see lots of teamwork on the floor. Compensation is fair.

Cons

New CEO has cut budgets by 20% across the board and of course this takes the form of reduction in staff, float pay, and supply resources for nursing. This used to be a good place to work, but now there's not much to recommend it over any other hospital in Houston. Probably a pretty cushy place to work if you're in administration, but avoid it if you are front-line staff. This review is for the TMC location.

Pros

I was at TMC location (1000 bed hospital) There are many hospital locations so can find a job close to you. Lots of opportunity for involvement in committees, projects, volunteering. Well-defined criteria for advancement. I enjoyed the encouragement and possibilities to further my education such as conferences and help with certification. I loved my team. Overall, I had a good experience, but it was because I took the effort to advance my skills and knowledge.

Cons

Politics. Even though I never held management position, any one who works there can tell you there are overt office politics issues occurring. Turnover for RN's is often times very high. If you're a new nurse, you have to sign a 2 year contract for residency. During this period, if you discover you don't like the unit you've been hired to it can be really hard to transfer during that time period. Because of high turnover, a lot of charge RN's are younger nurses which can be positive if you are looking for early leadership, but also it's highly stressful and potentially unsafe. Employee insurance is not very good I've heard (I was on a family plan). Experience is very unit specific some are great and some are notoriously awful- so ask before you accept a job.
