Pros

Coworkers are good people who are hard working. The idea/vision of the company is good. Good starting place IF you are strong willed and get blessed with a good client. If you put your head down and work hard, you will succeed. The vision of memoryBlue is strong, by offering to inside sales support Silicon Valley companies. The location of the San Jose office is directly downtown. There are fun company outings such as happy hour or dinner events. Competitive pay!

Cons

Extremely poor execution of vision and management. Management will tell you manipulative things. I've seen management conduct very unethical with peers. Cut of salary by 50%, lying about current employment status, not following ethical standards, demanding X amount of dollars if you decide to leave the company, threatening employees that clients do not like them, telling employees to walk out the door.

Thanks for taking time to post candid feedback here on Glassdoor. We appreciate your positive sentiments and will 100% take your not-so-positive comments seriously. Here are a few notes about things you mentioned in your review. We would slightly edit your headline to read, “If you’re mentally strong, take a job in sales.” You nail it with the idea that sales is not the easiest profession in the world, but we do believe the hard work and effort is extremely worth it (and highly lucrative in the case of high tech sales). And we would also take strong exception to your allegations of any unethical wrong-doing or improper/threatening behavior. That said, our owners have a firm “open door” policy and would welcome a direct call or discussion in-person on any of these matters. We’ve been in business for 15+ years and continue to scale this business rapidly thanks to our steadfast commitment to inside sales success for all of our clients and employees alike. We didn’t get that way or attract top talent to fill these needs by making habit or policy out of the things you allege above. We’re proud of our hiring practice even as we’ve expanded our operations these last several years. Fitting into that picture in a big way is our Silicon Valley (San Jose) office. As the most recently opened of our locations, we remain firmly committed to its success and will continue to invest and build it up as the years progress. Thank you for your comments supporting our vision – and we’ll take to heart your advice and feedback. Best of luck as you continue your sales career journey.

Pros

It got me where I am with my current company. Mainly out of luck/timing and because my current employer likes me

Cons

I worked at MemoryBlue quite some time ago and never intended to do a review. But I decided to take a gander over some current reviews today and was annoyed with how many positive reviews there were. The reason for my being annoyed by this was because I and others in the past have been bribed to put positive reviews in this site, and there is no way so many people had this many positive experiences with this horrible company. So it is pretty safe for me to assume there were some unethical bribes going on recently - and that's just the start with the unethical practices of this company. Yes, the training is way below par of what they pitch to you in your interview, and yes the quotas are ridiculous and about 90% of the time, unattainable. But, what really blows me away about this company is how unethical they are. The minute there isn't a lot business fueling the company, they go for the tenured SDRs who aren't hitting their unattainable quota. They will put you on PIP and if times are really tough, they will cut your salary by 50% for that current month and promise to fire you if you don't hit your number. I kid you not, they do that. Sounds pretty illegal, if not, at least incredibly unethical. And if you do not agree to get paid 50% less than what your contract promises, they will tell you that you will get fired that day. Now THAT, is grounds for a lawsuit in itself. Now, let's address management. The level of maturity that management in the San Jose office has, is similar to the level of a 17 year old high school "mean girl". They will lie to you and give you zero insight on what is going with the client THAT YOU WORK WITH. I can't even tell you how many lies I and my colleagues were told, just to lie. Management will also bully you and belittle you to keep control - since they're practically the same age as the SDRs so I assume they probably feel the need to. If I were to give someone advice about potentially taking a position at this company, I would say...DON'T.

Thank you for posting anonymously on Glassdoor – this is the place where you’ve chosen to speak your mind, and we’d like to address some of these comments publicly. For starters, congratulations on coming through memoryBlue and ultimately getting hired out to a client. It’s your right to believe this positive result is “luck” -- though if that’s the case, we’ve had close to 300 “lucky” Alumni in our last decade of work. To us, this is proof positive that our hiring process, our extensive sales training methods (we can agree to disagree about the way you’ve downplayed it), our tech industry experience and our connections all come together to create this same situation over and over again. When you do something this long with the same results, it doesn’t feel like luck. As for your demonstrably false allegations of bribery and unethical behavior, again, it’s your right to say what you wish in this forum but none of this is even remotely true. It’s hardly worth addressing, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t at least state that for the record. When hundreds of hungry professionals are coming through our multiple offices over the years, having great experiences, and launching long and lucrative careers in the high-tech sales space, the positive reviews are not a surprise to us. The rest of your review doesn’t contain any facts or evidence of the allegations you present. If you have any, you have our open invitation to come to our offices or schedule a direct call with Chris or Marc (their door is always open) and discuss things any time. We wish you the best of luck with your sales career and we do hope you stick with sales.

Pros

Loved the clients, the opportunity to get hired out, and the environment in the Austin office while I was there. My manager worked well with me and was flexible, but each individual will have a different experience at MemoryBlue. You will be given chances. In all likelihood you will be able to find success if you work hard.

Cons

Did not always correctly assign qoutas. I had an instances where I was on pace to exceed all my goals by 10%, but during the third week of that month my qouta was adjusted up to an unattainable height. I addressed the issue with my manager, but he said there was nothing he could do. Many people have issues with attaining their commission, while others, depending on the client, are not ever able to make bonuses. Lastly, some regional offices (Austin at times), struggled to find clients over a 3-6 month period. Demand for services was fluctuating and resulting in lay-offs to staff below quota during that time.

Thanks for taking time to post your feedback here on Glassdoor. We appreciate your insights and will take your suggestions for improvements seriously. One thing we should point out is that we do continually work to keep our office experiences extremely similar across our three locations (DC/TX/CA), while also allowing the Managing Directors flexibility to balance that goal with an obvious need to maintain their own unique local culture. The Austin office in particular constantly receives accolades from employees and clients alike for the sensational office culture and team commitment found there. Our organizational structure and sales processes remain inextricably connected and in sync between all of our offices, but some minor differences will also happen organically. With respect to the demand for our services, while this can be cyclical (as it is for all businesses), we’re currently experiencing a strong level of client growth across all of our offices including Austin. And we always fight as hard as we can to avoid any need for downsizing. Any employee separations that may have occurred during your time with us would have been vastly more related to consistently poor and unimproved individual performance versus having anything to do with client acquisition/retention. Lastly, “tough” clients and “hard to hit” quotas are comments that come up on Glassdoor periodically for all sales-oriented organizations. While we’ve addressed those things at length in other responses on this page, suffice to say that memoryBlue is constantly committed to always executing fair sales quota and bonus practices and full transparency as to how these metrics are set throughout all of our offices.
