No longer a good place to work

Pros

My coworkers are still the best part of working for TMW because we become a family. I like that Its not a job where you have to wear a uniform and can be proud of being your self in that environment. The management meetings in CA are fun sometimes too.

Cons

Because of the economic problems TMW has become just like all other companies that use the threat of termination to force results out of co-workers. They hire bullies for managers now and they don't care about the people anymore. They force you to act like your having fun, they force you to push products and services that are inferior and pretend like they are great and they force you to work on off days or else face termination. I hate working there and yet there is no where else to go. By the way the tuxedo rental business is a disaster waiting to happen and the only ones that know that are the actual people who run it.

Pros

There are few companies that are more loyal to employees and customers. The company made cuts during the economic downturn and focues their cuts on senior management rather than on store level employees where possible. The mission statement of TMW is actually meaningful to employees and the heart and soul of how and why decisions are made. You can operate with integrity and be successful- that may seem obvious, but is actually a rare thing in most companies of this size. Leadership is approachable and available.

Cons

Annual raises are not generous and have been rare for many positions for the past few years. Because of the talent and quality of employees, promotions to multi-store positions and senior management can take a very long time.

Pros

As with all companies, if there is good management, the company can expect to grow. The company is growing tremendously, with more than 1000 stores in the US and Canada. The company gives awesome Holiday Parties, along with wonderful prizes at the employee meetings.

Cons

Unfortunately, the growth does not work well for all employees. One would think that with growth comes internal opportunities for one to grow, move into different departments, and so forth. This is not always the case. Some employees have completed their degrees while working for the company, and cannot transfer into a more prestigious department making higher pay. It's almost as if some of the departments are literally prevent others (who are hard working and shows from their work ethic) from moving forward in the company. Also not all of the departments work together. There is a department who has the responsibility of enforcing the rules in the SOP, while another department constantly breaks the rules, and their managers just support them. This is causing rifts in the ranks.
