Pros

Menards offered competetive pay, excellent weekend bonus, and good training. I was lucky to get a great department and manager in my store.

Cons

Opportunities to advance are really given on an arbitrary basis in terms of who advances. The culture is a little too conservative for my tastes. There's a cult of personality around John Menard in the upper management levels which is borderline creepy.

Pros

There aren't many. Money was OK but not as good as they try to sell you on. I had a close knit team so that was nice.

Cons

They always expect more for less. You work grueling hours. They put every mistake on you even if you had no control of it. They love fining you to lower you pay. Bonuses are constantly decreasing. They are always creating reasons to fire people and then force you to do the dirty work even if you don't agree with them. They encourage micromanagement and they force you to relocate, multi state often times, with no regards of your home or family life. This is honestly one of the worst companies a person could work for in all of America.

Pros

Great starter job. Started as a part-time cashier while in college. Went through manager trainee program and moved up to asst. dept. manager. Advancement opportunites

Cons

There is no life outside of Menards once you become a manager or assistant. Most promotions come from moving to a new location. The pay is NOT enough for the work that is done. The general office puts the fear in all managers when they visit. Never ending list of demands from corporate on what needs fixing.
