Pros

Unlike many retail jobs, Menards offers the opportunity to be intellectually challenged on a regular basis. It makes the job so much better to be presented with legitimate problem solving and creative decision making. The product knowledge you can gain at Menards is also very applicable to everyday life. In addition, Menards is very open to promoting from within--even to the corporate level.

Cons

Yes, there really is a slogan "If there's time to lean, there's time to clean." When your department isn't busy, you'll find yourself dusting, straightening, stocking, and more for hours on end. It's considered shameful to be leaning on your desk for even 5 minutes. Also, Menards practices an archaic closing method. If you're supposed to close, you'll be scheduled till 10, but often kept as late as 11. It doesn't matter if you're done with your work. If anyone at all is working, you will be there. There's also an extremely poor interdepartment relations setup. Departments are rivals and often avoid helping each other unless it is convenient.

Pros

All your team members were great to work with. Almost everyone shared the same values.

Cons

The cons all have to deal with the location you are working in. Out of the 5 stores I worked at, the last one was the worst. It had destroyed the dreams I had with Menards. The reason this location was the worst is also the management that the home office had put in place to run this store. They did not care about the people as much but more with what the store needed. Menards does not care about your families or you time to rest. They will work you to the bone. I was pulling 60 hour weeks setting up store for at least a month or two straight just after moving into a new place. I never had any time to actually live just work.
