Massive changes in only a few years

Pros

Work life balance is good; never received any push back for taking time off.

Cons

When I started a few years ago, it was pretty obvious that there was massive room for advancement. Anyone who had worked here for at least 5 years was in some type of management or leadership position. Following the acquisition by a private equity firm and merger with another entity in mid-2018, that no longer appears to be the case. It is extremely difficult to transfer to another department and it is apparent that management would rather hire from outside than promote from within. There were a handful of promotions immediately following the merger (managers promoted to directors, directors promoted to VPs) but since then, most management/leadership positions have been filled from the outside. Additionally, the merger has resulted in a vast change in policies and procedures, the rollout of which has resulted in confusion, miscommunication to clients and general frustration. Finally, compensation isn't great. We are told that we are paid in line with national market averages, but Orange County, California is not average in terms of cost of living. Also, there is no formal bonus structure.

No Free Lunch

Pros

There is no free lunch from this company. You really need to prove your worth. If you want to be on top of the summit, you have to climb the mountain which should be easy with patience and hard work. I don't expect best of everything from this company because I am not the best and I am not contributing the most profit. However, I am happy with the company for providing an opportunity at the right time for the right person. I saw first hand how an intern engineer get to work on the cutting edge technology and how a secreatary got promoted to support, consultant, and leadership position.

Cons

No incentive plan yet. Would be mutual benefit to all, if employees have some ownership of the company.

This Company is a Great Place to Work & Grow

Pros

I have been with ML for over 5 years and love it. I have grown with the company and worked my way through different positions. I have learned so much and also have the opportunity to contribute to the design of the software (despite not being a programmer) and direction of the company. They listen to their employees and consider suggestions. Although they cannot accommodate every wish, they do work for overall satisfaction of the employee. The absolute best part are my co-workers in every division. The employees are the most helpful and supportive in any job or team activity I have ever experienced. It is very likely a lucky feature of this company, but I also know it has been encouraged as well. This is the reason I enjoy being at work and something ML should be very proud of. There are perks that have been enjoyed since day one such as monthly company lunches, wonderful annual picnics and holiday party with prizes and games. Now that we have a new building the perks get better and better. We have a fresh salad bar of which I enjoy almost daily. It is modest but perfect and greatly appreciated by myself who is self-conscience on making healthy choices and by others who normally don't eat salad to develop healthier habits. There are a lot of outside activities employees make on their own with the friendships that develop. A small gym is in the works and talks of a day care have been circulating. Free coffee and soda machines will keep your eyes open as well as impromptu bagels and donuts showing up for appreciation on a random day. They also pay a good percentage of health insurance I believe after 30 days. Since last year I have been able to take advantage of the Family Health Savings plan for day care and health costs for tax free money to spend on those necessities. I am very glad that was implemented.

Cons

Of course not everything is perfect since there is no such thing. However, overall it is a great place to be. Here are some cons: There is no 401K match or contribution by the company. The salaries could be a little better but for some outweighed by a lot of the perks mentioned. For some the commute can be lengthy if you cannot live close to the premises. The communication for some aspects of the job could be better but continues to improve. The air conditioning at times is too cool so wear layers. Nothing horrific here!
