Pros

The change that the Global Technology Organization is going through is tremendous, and so are the opportunities to do great things. I think the leadership really wants MetLife in Raleigh to become an employer of choice for the area, and they certainly have the potential and momentum to do so.

Cons

Where I think they are missing the mark is in providing those opportunities that will differentiate MetLife from all the other IT shops in the area... to make it a destination company as opposed to a stepping stone. Right now, employees are working long hours without any insight into future career paths or avenues move up the chain. Until that happens, MetLife will continue to be just another IT shop.

Pros

It is a good place to learn financial planning and gain certifications selling insurance products in the industry. The certifications gained are transferrable in the industry.

Cons

Work-life balance is a point of coercion with very high turnovers. A manager in the company was extremely focused on turnover for personal interests.

Pros

Good benefits, stable company, in all areas other than the disability organization, there was a great amount of support and collaberation.

Cons

The expectations of the claim managers is unrealistic. Leadership pushes upper management initiatives that do not translate to the day to day operations. In many situations I requested clearer detail on HOW to do what was being requested. When I provided some challengesin the process and asked for guidance, I was told to stop asking questions and just do it. There is no training for management and very limited training for the claims managers. In addition, tthe pay structure is a full tier below the rest of the company. A "Unit Leader" who is a people manager insNOT paid as a "Manager" as it would be across the rest of the business. My direct supervisor, who handled over 60 FTEs was paid as a "Manager" instead of a "Director" as he would have been with those responsibilties in any other organization within the company. (I do have a few years working within HR at MetLife which is what provided me this insight).
