      Decent although not fair pay.

      Cons

      ZERO opportunity for advancement. Qualifications are ignored. Usually friends, family or race and gender of the month move up. Positions are posted and then rules are incorporated to allow specific group to apply, regardless of qualification or talent. Never any support from management when it comes to disputed. Union leaders negotiate for themselves and not benefit of bottom 3/4 of membership.

      Pros

      Great work/life balance. Good location in downtown Chicago. My job involves a lot of time out of the office.

      Cons

      Corruption, mismanagement, dysfunction. Political corruption and lack of management professionalism have created an agency with significant lack of professionalism, poor support for employees in terms of compensation and workforce development.

      Competitive Salary (depending on what personnel "grade" you're hired into).

      Cons

      Politics, clout and nepotism continues to undermine effective decision-making. Labor/Management relations are strained - "Union-busting" is implied by the many changes in the processes by which contract employees are able to move "up", and job titles/descriptions are inconsistent with job requirements. Too many "Chiefs" with essentially the same job function.
