Pros
The mission of Metro is the heart and soul of the institution. Most people who work here believe in social justice and delivering care to those in need. I appreciate working alongside such likeminded people. The benefits are generous for a public hospital. For the most part, I have been able to grow my career in the direction that suits me best without much pressure to do things that don't interest me. I couldn't ask for a better group of colleagues and patients.
Cons
Because we are a public hospital, resources are sometimes short (embargoes on office supplies, hardworking but understaffed ancillary services). The clinical volume is also just past the upper limit of what I feel comfortable with to provide optimal patient care, and to maintain my own mental health.
