Pros

They pay above average, work life balance is OK

Cons

The company is full of people who have never worked anywhere else and think the backwards way they've concocted is the only way to do things. Toxic employees who are rude to others have their behavior excused as "that's just the way they are." Engineers are elevated more for debating mindless theory than actually trying to push projects forward. The company was thrown a lifeline in being acquired by Lemonade, as the stock was plummeting and the interior culture is retched.

Pros

The people are the best part about Metromile.

Cons

If you want to do insurance, work at an insurance company that knows what they are doing and one of the bigger insurance carriers. There is no advancement at Metromile and you will continue to wonder where there is opportunity but there is none. What made Metromile a great place to work was the company culture, but this has been completely been lost throughout the year with the loss of tenured employees and managers. It is now transformed into your typical call center where the only things that matter are metrics. Upper management expects you to meet these metrics but doesn’t give you the tools to succeed. When you are constantly understaffed and there are constant bugs in the system, that will result in in unhappy customers resulting into poor survey responses for the Agents. Upper management has no idea how burnt out their employees feel. They do not understand because they are too busy utilizing their unlimited PTO while the staff is in a constant backed up queue. The PM shift is staying later and never off on time. There is no work to life balance because by the time you are off you are too exhausted to accomplish anything. For example, there was an issue with devices resulting in extremely high call volume. Being yelled at by back to back customers is extremely mentally draining yet all the Managers say is “Be thankful you have a job”. Metromile is focusing on becoming profitable but this will never happen if you can’t even make your current employees happy. With the new changes and leadership being implemented, I think Metromile is going in the completely wrong direction and will never get its original culture back.
