Pros

Salary and compensation were excellent. Overall the corporate culture was good. Enjoyed the little perks such as getting together for outings. Being able to balance family and work improved over the years depending on department. Some of the management has an open door policy and go out of their way to keep you informed and feeling an important part of the team. Others need to work on this.

Cons

Depending on the department you worked for the opportunities to advance were slim but I was happy with my position and was . Although Milliman takes pride in education, sometimes it was limited as to the classes or other opportunities available. Slow to update technology. You may end up with obsolete skills when they finally up date and you risk being laid off because of it. Yes, you could have taken classes to keep up but on your own dime. Because they weren't using the new technology and didn't share the time line for the up grades so you could be prepared you wasted your money because the classes were out of date when you go job hunting. It was tacky the way they gave me notice of my lay off - they didn't even have the thoughtfulness to do it face to face. I wasn't offered severance which yes many companies still offer (I always had good evals).

Pros

Great location in downtown Seattle with beautiful views of Puget Sound and many walkable restaurants/boutiques. Reasonable selection of benefits & insurance companies, with some plans costing $0 to the employee. Bus pass stipend.

Cons

Very difficult to move up in the company, unless you are an Actuary. Regardless of what one's resume may say about prior experience, they refuse to see people's potential if hired at a level lower than prior work experience. If you're on the administrative team, beware of gossip and fashion police reporting any minor dress code infraction. I'm all about dressing professionally, but prohibiting "unnatural" hair color, piercings, tattoos, etc is just completely outdated and overbearing. They are not afraid to fire people who have been there for years, without giving them reasonable cause. Terrible vision plan.
