Pros

Co-workers. Some of the most amazing, hard-working, and quality people I’ve ever worked with in life. Caring about your team is the only thing that makes the work worth doing.

Cons

Deception in every possible way. Every angle and every executive has a different version of the lies. Newer executives shine light on the true ambitions of Rick and the company. The ambitions? Money. No surprise, it’s a company. MINDBODY loves to flaunt the core values as if they’re still any sort of driving force. Stop pretending that it’s any more than money. The lie that it’s about something bigger is just that, a lie. My consolation was always that I could believe in Rick. That’s long gone too. We all see who he’s hitching his wagon to and where that’s going. It makes me question whether he ever really meant any of it or if he’s just an oscar worthy performer of sincerity. His act hasn’t changed but the lies are suddenly evident. MINDBODY is something like a brainwashing cult led by a charismatic man with the appearance of truth. They hijack your personal life by seducing you with the core values. They make you feel part of something bigger in hopes of making you a promoter. After the rationalizing of the actions, looking back, it’s obvious that they’ve manipulated us for our devotion (and probably our stock purchases). To then turn around and abuse the work ethic and loyalty of the people who live those core values. Last step is drive away current employees so that it’s less fuss to replace them with outsourced discount workers. With the writing on the walls, almost everyone is job hunting. As Rick said, we’re all replaceable. Does he know that he is too? He’ll learn someday. Right before that calculated future announcement that he’s onto “better things” or “more time with family” I’m sure.

Lack of direction, disorganization and horrible politics

Pros

The only pro is that they give employees $65 a month to use at MINDBODY clients.

Cons

There are so many cons that it is hard to list them all here. Management doesn't know what they are doing. They became management because they started at MINDBODY in the early days and not because they had the skills needed to be successful in the job. These managers are threatened by anyone who might possibly have more experience and will knock those people down. I mean, why let anyone who might help make departments successful succeed? They might make the VP or Director look bad. It's every man for themselves and the favorites of the CEO always get what they want even if it makes no sense. Overall there is a lack of direction with the company. I get that they want to be profitable but how exactly are they going to get there? Changing priorities, teams, org structures every few days is not going to help people focus on an objective. My department was in constant change and everyone always felt unsettled. We didn't know who was in charge, what to work on, who we were working with and it made completing work incredibly challenging. It is impossible to prioritize with this chaos and disorganization that is constantly going on. One minute project A is the most important priority, the next minute it's Project B and 5 minutes later Project A is back at the front of the list. There is absolutely no career development at MINDBODY. I had no training, had to pay for my own certifications and was never offered anything that might help me grow. I had to do all of that on my own. Finally, there is a huge lack of respect between departments. No one respects one another and it leads to a really toxic, negative environment. The core values basically don't exist anymore so don't let them fool you with that. The compensation is about half of what you'd get in a major city and you pay a small fortune for your health insurance. Beware before going to MINDBODY. If you don't like working in total chaos all the time and kissing senior leadership butt it might not be for you.

When a disaster hits core values are forgotten

Pros

free fruit, wellness cards (when that was a thing), plaza parties, benefits (most of these are obsolete now)

Cons

Mindbody decided to lay off 650 employees and furlough 350 due to COVID. While most companies stood by their employees MB did not. After we started working from home they immediately started talking about layoffs. The whole process was very impersonal and done via a mass email sent out at 5:00 AM on April 2nd. This email was the same and stated if you were laid off, got to keep your job, or furloughed. This is creating panic for employees still at the company more than doubling their workload and wondering if there will be more rounds of layoffs. Up until this point there has been silence from upper management on the progression of how Covid is effecting Mindbody's business. Vista the multi-billion dollar equity firm did nothing to help the company survive. In a recent meeting the CEO states that the company has tens of millions of dollars in the bank and STILL decided to lay off employees leaving them without their community and healthcare benefits. The layoffs at Mindbody were a choice not a necessity. Is Mindbody hiding behind Coivid-19 to initiate already planned layoffs so they can outsource jobs to India or area's where it cheaper to employ? Mind you India still has jobs that they are hiring for while the US is not hiring. This would not be the first time Vista has moved jobs to a more affordable region.
