Pros

The pay is reasonable. There is a real bond with most of your co-workers The benefits are fairly decent The 12 hour Shifts

Cons

They have "blinders" on when it comes to achieving Magnet Status They often don't care if a Patient is inappropriate for a particular Unit- it seems as if it's all about filling a bed They disregard the opinions of Staff, who might have a lot more experience in the particular speciality They disregard the fact that Staff have or try to have a life outside of the job, again because of Magnet Status fever. Staff is overwhelmed and stressed with all the demands of Administration They spent money on a fancy fountain and new building and then hosted a party to show it off to the elite in Orange County, but blame the economy for cutting back on Staff Staff have an increasingly low morale

Pros

The benefits and perks to being a Mission employee were great. There are a multitude of programs and resources for anyone to use. The health benefits are decent, and are offered to part-time employees (but not PRN). Lots of free food events, discounts and admission to local VIP events, etc.. Loved the PTO, payroll deduction and staff health programs.

Cons

Their "Promoting from Within" stance is greatly exaggerated--some employees had been unsuccessfully trying to transfer for as many as 16 YEARS (perhaps more). Internal applicants are continually rejected in favor of hand-picked, external candidates who are chosen long before the job is even posted. HR chooses to cover it up by hiding behind guidelines that are irrelevant to the situation. Departments seem to mirror social classes--RN's and CNA's in particular were catty, spiteful and treated myself and members of my department like trash. I have overhead extremely insensitive and callous comments made about patients and their families. Management treated us like bad children and often threatened us with either disciplinary action or our jobs. They get defensive and vindictive when someone speaks their mind. The contract company they brought in to manage our department was absolutely atrocious with their authoritarian attitudes and unreasonable demands. At the time I left, morale in our dept was very low and even employees who had been there for 20-30 years were considering walking out because this company was making their lives miserable.
