Pros

Most of the people at the company are pleasant to work with. Good job security and opportunities for continuing education and movement within the company.

Cons

Expect the bureaucratic nightmare inherent to government jobs, and then multiply it by all the unnecessary levels of management. The chain-of-command communication style leaves most employees completely disconnected from the two levels of Directors, who generally make little effort to understand happenings "on the ground." Promotions and raises are very political and based more on who you go golfing or bar-hopping with than on your actual job performance. As of 2021, the company is hemorrhaging employees. Working for the NNSA isn't a bad gig, but this M&O contractor is notably bad.

Pros

Good opportunities for education and certification programs, 4-10s schedule for most employees, good job security, generally pleasant coworkers and lower management

Cons

First five hours of overtime are now unpaid for most employees, byzantine performance review system, incompetent HR and upper management, long and uncompensated commutes for those who work at the Site

Pros

Really great quality of life, ability to work from home sometimes, 4x10s or 9x9s, generally nobody works Fridays, and generally good people to work with. They even have a pension after 5 years, and offer a unique vacation purchase plan. The mission is amazing.

Cons

Management is bad. There are a high number of directors and managers that came from Honeywell Kansas City in the contractor transition in 2017. They can generally be lumped into 3 categories: good (rare), golden child smoke-and-mirror managers who are good at making it seem like they're improving anything and they don't actually have a clue, and formerly low-level people who were promoted to join MSTS at levels well above their capabilities and competence. Techniques used in managing manufacturing are good for managing manufacturing, but are not working so well when being blindly applied to all other areas. Nearly two years after the transition, directors are still fumbling to translate vision into actionable and consistent guidance.
