Employee stock plan, company events, free coffee, food trucks

Cons

Company direction from top leadership is divided and high stress with unclear expectations trickles down. A culture of uncertainty muddled with anxiety creates conflict within team members and between departments. The inability to make appropriate decisions at key times transforms into excuses when the original goal was never reasonable. The idea of making everyone accountable is great except when a few core people can't pass on their work so they need to take it home to them. I don't want to be writing work related items while my child grows up and I'm sick of being penalized for it. Expect to work minimum 50 hours and upwards of 95+. Cut your salary in half and that's your real offer. Your personal life will suffer.

You have probably heard that Moderna can be a challenging place to work, so let me share my experience and thoughts on what it's like to work here. Moderna is truly doing amazing things, along with this comes the need to work hard and manage multiple priorities and fill holes as we grow. You are going to need to step in and advocate for what you believe is the right things to do, respectfully question peoples approaches and come to the best answer. Does this make it easy to get things done? not always, but we are focused on delivering the best outcomes for patients and learning to do things differently. We are doing this while advancing a unprecedented number of drugs through the clinic. This quote comes to mind when I think about Moderna: “When companies grow quickly, there are more things to do than there are people to do them. When companies grow more slowly or stop growing, there is less to do and too many people to be doing them. Politics and stagnation set in, and everyone falters. He told me, "If you're offered a seat on a rocket ship, you don't ask what seat. You just get on." Eric Schmidt in 2001 when he was Google’s CEO Some of the pros of working here: Engaged, Focused, and smart people working to develop a new class of medicines Great benefits; 90% of medical premiums paid, free lunch, 16 weeks paid parental leave for males and females, equity for all full-time employees, free lunch every day, great commuter benefits.

Workload - you need to be skilled and prioritizing and making trade-offs

Pros

- Money and benefits - Thanks for the 3x/week happy hour I'll need it to distract me from our tanking stock price

Cons

- The building has been on fire for 4 yrs and everything is needed on an ASAP basis (CEO keeps reminding us that people are dying) - Not enough resources to do the job your boss is asking you to do on the timeline that your boss promised it to the EC - Senior members of the company think it's appropriate to outwardly criticize and condemn their direct reports to others (including for being on parental leave) - Related: general vibe that having a kid and taking parental leave is an annoyance - You're gifted more responsibilities because people leave without replacing headcount (cost savings am I right) but forget about seeing your paycheck or title increase accordingly - Everyone has a quick question that needs an ASAP response so productivity is always being disrupted - No opportunities to grow in the organization (despite consistent excellent EOY reviews) and zero transparency on how to be promoted (HR thinks its better to have that flexibility) - Public shaming for expressing views contrary to mgmt (note to self: drink the kool-aid and live the mindsets) - No accountability from mgmt on tanking stock price (recent townhall "we planned for this") - Constantly providing feedback through surveys but no action is taken (example Glint Surveys) - Favoritism abound! If you are a chosen one life is good and the keys to the kingdom will be yours
