Burnout city!!

Pros

Best parts of this job was working with clients with psychosis, addictions and other severe mental health disorders. I learned a lot about the mental health system as a whole. Additionally the other clinicians were wonderful to work with and helped me through every step of the way. Thank god for them.

Cons

My manager was extremely narcissistic, unrealistic, unsupportive and created a hostile work environment. I did not feel safe at my workplace I was constantly harassed, and humiliated during team meetings. When I reported her to management nothing was done instead everything got worse. HR did nothing for me except stir the pot with her and she began to treat me even more poorly by attacking my character and work ethic etc. additionally this job is not what it is said to be, you will be exhausted, burnout and forget about why you even decided to go into mental health in the first place. The pay is good but it was not worth suffering for me. If you like being overworked and burnout this is the place for you, the work never ends and you will feel incompetent. Clinicians are expected to pick up everyone on the teams slack and are never seen as humans who deserve empathy or a goddamn break. During my time here I saw 5 people leave my team because of the manager. I was the 6th person to leave in less than a years time frame.

Pros

Well, there are always job openings and there are several locations or job sites to choose from. There is some level of stability in the case manager positions and an average benefits package.

Cons

Weird management philosophy for a medical agency - they strongly overemphasize and encourage patient care interventions which have little evidence to support effectiveness in treating mental illness (rather extreme take on the social rehab approach to patient care). I left due to aggressive and questionable billing practices.

Poor Management, Great Clients

Pros

Employees gain a wealth of experience working with those who've been diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness. Wrap-around services support clients in rehabilitation, and, in general, fellow coworkers are extremely supportive.

Cons

Secretive and vindictive management. Executive management has little clue of what front-line employees deal with on a day-to-day basis. Management, in general, are not collaborative, and are often jealous of their employees strengths. Momentum is an extremely top-heavy organization that could benefit from cost-cutting measures by laying off management. Momentum management is not well respected throughout the county and for good reason.
