Pros

The firm is established and prestigious. The work force is pretty diversed and has a good amount of competent people. The pay is competitive and there's a lot of material to learn new things. You just have to be proactive in researching. People are nice enough to take time to show their day to day. Management escalation is in the right direction for the firm.

Cons

Assuming same across all banks but if you can't be vocal then you can't shine or show case your competency. Also the request for transition into new work or groups is hard. This road block can force people to leave the firm. Although if you stay with the group, you can gain a team lead or promotion opportunity, but I personally can't perform the same function for years on out.

Pros

There are generally very smart people who work at MSCI Barra. The kitchen is also stocked with lots of free food. The computers are resources are very good. The benefits are also top notch but you do not go to a firm like this because of the benefits.

Cons

The management is poor and the managers drive out the young, hardworking people who do all of the legwork. The firm as a whole has poured a lot of resources into risky proprietary activities that have hurt the rest of the firm. Morale is low but better than other places. Hours are very long given the low pay which leads to low morale.

Pros

They offer a pension and some great benefits. It has a name which used to carry weight. Now, I get an average of 5 calls a month from recruiters hiring for the position I held. I have to tell them I cannot, in good conscience, recommend anyone for the job or the company.

Cons

I was One employee with Four (4) Managers of varying levels. None of them knew how to communicate with each other and communication was our job! We were the Instructional Designers for the company. The VP in charge actually told us that she "...hated Instructional Design". I was threatened on many occasions for *not* putting in enough overtime. A Project Manager assigned to a very large project routinely had melt downs and would fire off the most unprofessional emails I have ever seen. The manager directly under the VP hid incompetence behind a flourish of words and policy (he was referred to as "The Black Hole" by his employees). In short, the entire experience was surreal! One employee in one department that BADLY needed to be scrapped and rebuilt - run by people who would actually care.
