      Mott MacDonald is by far one of the most toxic and demoralizing workplaces I’ve experienced. Bullying is rampant and completely ignored by management and HR. Complaints are brushed under the rug, and the perpetrators face zero consequences. HR is ineffective and seems more interested in protecting the company’s image than its employees' well-being. Leadership is archaic, closed-minded, and often downright hostile. Rather than mentoring or supporting staff, they belittle and intimidate. There is no room for professional growth, creativity, or honest feedback—only fear, silence, and compliance. The culture is broken from the top down. If you value your mental health, self-respect, and career progression, stay far away. This is not just a bad company—it's a damaging one.

      High pressure, low support – a sink or swim approach

      Pros

      Competitive pay, fantastic benefits such as 6 month paid maternity pay.

      Cons

      Highly performance-driven culture with little tolerance for learning curves, even at graduate level. Many employees were placed on extended probation or PIP plans which were not SMART targets, creating a culture of fear and pressure rather than support. Some of my colleagues felt a lot of shame around this, but did feel better when they learned it was not a unique experience (as I think management expected most people not to talk of such things). Allegedly staff were questioned about toilet breaks which concerns about micromanagement. The company promotes inclusivity in theory, but this is not consistently reflected in practice.

      Nice place, rewards remarkably poor and miserably managed.

      Pros

      Good place to work, mostly positive and interactive. Work life balance largely supported.

      Cons

      Bizarre claim to be employee owned - though technically correct, shares distributed at a certain level with no process of how awarded. Cloak and daggers stuff. To add to this, performance bonus appears to be swept away by trivial non-compliance with admin tasks. So full years worth of top performance at secondment level matters little if you've a late timesheet, issued mandatory training late etc. Pretty dire.
