Pros

MultiCare Health System at large is a decent organization to work for. It offers great health care benefits at affordable costs and is a well known and generally well respected health care system. Behavioral Health in particular, is a challenging but rewarding place to work if you enjoy serving clients with persistent mental illness. If you need clinical experience, it's a great starting place.

Cons

Behavioral Health in particular has a high incidence of turnover because of the nature of work involved. Unfortunately, in recent months the turnover rate is increased exponentially because of poor management, poor working conditions, and a failed attempt to unionize. The later exposed an incredible divide between not only line-level workers, but also between line-level workers and management.

Pros

The organization's mission and values are good ones. Good people with good intentions at all levels of the organization. Competitive salaries for hourly employees. Opportunities for growth and development

Cons

Too many competing priorities making it difficult to find satisfaction in doing a job well. Focus has become grow, grow, grow, without the support system in place to manage the growth. Unrealistic expectations- do more with less and keep smiling.... No work-life balance for salaried employees.

We believe growth and quality are not mutually exclusive. We also see growth as essential given the current dynamics of the healthcare industry. Based on your comments, it’s clear you share our commitment to excellence. We need employees like you to help us maintain a focus on quality and service while we expand our presence across the Pacific Northwest.

Pros

Seasoned staff were great people. High acuity patient population, excellent doctors. Large hospital, always hiring. Worked for 3 years at Tacoma General CCU / CVICU.

Cons

Worst management ever. No patient safety. Bill Robertson is making such drastic cuts that it affected the entire hospital, especially staffs ability to maintain quality care. PCU ratios 1:4 standard, sometimes 1:5 PCU ratios on the CCU. Charge nurses often have patients. Poor training. Tons of brand new graduates with little to no support. High staff turnover, poor patient outcomes. Look up wages on WSNA contract. Lowest paid in region.

MultiCare is committed to competitive wages and safe staffing levels. Unfortunately, we have been unsuccessful in negotiating a new contract with the nursing union at Tacoma General. As a result, pay rates have been “stuck” at the level they were when the previous contract expired.
