Pros

The people you work with day to day become your family. The organization has seen tremendous growth over the last few years which is Great! Alot of flexibility within your job and schedule.

Cons

HR does not apply the same guidelines across the board for growth opportunities and promotions. HR has way too much control and leaves very little to the management within your dept. Fellows/interns get favored in this company. Very hard to get promoted and grow. Management turnover is very, very high. Too much waste in the organization. Consultants run the show at Multicare.

If you are not one of the very few selected for the MHA Fellow program, it can be frustrating to watch as the Fellows are developed and “fast tracked” into key leadership roles. However, it’s important to put this program into context as it is only one of the multiple employee development programs available across MultiCare. Other examples include our “Look at Leadership” program for aspiring managers and our robust Leadership Development programs for current leaders. You may also not be aware that we invest more than $1 million each year in tuition reimbursement for employees at all levels to help them continue their education and prepare for advancement.

Home health- sad decline

Pros

There's always patients for the caseload. The office staff are awesome, they do their best to be helpful.

Cons

Management has gone downhill over the past few years.. and more so over the past 2 years. Too many managers but no one knows exactly how to run the show. Management is cold and uncaring, no regard for employees. They do not recognize the value of their employees. Has turned into the typical corporate attitude. Too many meetings that yield nothing productive except for added stress. Poor support for clinical staff. If not for the support staff in the office, people would have left sooner. still, high turnover clinical staff.

We're always sad to see a long-time employee leave the organization rather than pursuing an opportunity in another area that might have been a better fit. The "corporate attitude" you were feeling may have been your manager's response to the pressures facing healthcare organizations like MultiCare. We are getting paid less for the services we provide while our costs continue to rise. Given that, we have to think more like a business while never losing sight of our non-profit mission -- partnering for healing and a healthy future.

Pros

Good bedside staff. Most of bedside people genuinely care about their patients. But old timers managers tried to run the show like it's their mom and pop business. Harsh on new hard workers and easy on their good old buddies. It's gets old eventually. Multicare does annual survey but never follow ups on the results. It gets frustrating and people just leave.

Cons

Terrible lower level management, benefits. Good place to work for if you do not have other options and do not want to drive to far places. But retirement plans are sub par, health benefits are expensive and gain sharing is hard to achieve for bedside staff. Executives still gets big bonuses and multicare gets to keep it's not for profit status. Government and corporate collaboration at its finest.

Although you may not have realized it, MultiCare pays a great deal of attention to the results of our annual Employee Engagement Survey. In fact, the results impact the performance review ratings for our managers. Those ratings impact whether managers receive annual pay increases and whether they are eligible for a performance-based bonus. Every manager at MultiCare is required to have an action plan to address concerns that are shared in the engagement survey. Regarding our benefits and retirement plan, we have made adjustments that are in line with changes being made across our industry. We continue to pay the majority of premium costs for our employees and to heavily subsidize family coverage. Like most employers, MultiCare has transitioned from a “defined benefit” pension plan to a “defined contribution” plan with an employer contribution and optional employee contribution.
