We’re sorry you felt you weren’t heard in spite of the many ways employees can share their input. In addition to direct communication with their supervisors, employees can also share their input via confidential resources such as our annual Employee Engagement Survey, semi-annual Interim Engagement Surveys, Corporate Compliance Hotline and Employee Relations consultants.

Pros

Benefits and compensation are okay. Some of the people are the most wonderful people you will meet in your life.

Cons

People in management are antisocial and will bully you. Managers are often underqualified and don't possess the experience, knowledge or credentials they should and in turn don't support their staff. I reported a director who was verbally abusive to staff and has a history of making lewd remarks (i.e., ageist, racist, and sexist). I will never make that mistake again. I suffered the repercussions of a very punitive system, and was reassured that what I said was confidential. I feel so overstressed and overworked that I will be leaving the organization soon. The turnover rate is very high. Engagement surveys are nonsense as a director had the lowest scores in all of Multicare and yet he still continues to work there despite multiple complaints. He is also the cause of the turnover and Multicare continues to protect him.

I will first respond to your allegation of abusive Director. Abuse (verbal or otherwise) is grounds for disciplinary action, up to and including immediate termination. If you have not already contacted Employee Relations, we encourage you to do so right away. I also want to address your comments about MultiCare leaders. We recognize that it can be frustrating when you see gaps in a leader and don’t see anything behind done to address those gaps. However, we have already exited a number of ineffective leaders across our system and are working with others to improve their behaviors and/or results. The Employee Engagement survey is an important tool we use to evaluate manager effectiveness. Again, if you have concerns, we encourage you to contact Employee Relations. Finally, although employee turnover may feel high, at around 10% it is in line with other healthcare systems across the country. It is still higher than we would like, and we are working hard to address the underlying reasons that good employees leave, including manager effectiveness.

Thank you for your input. MultiCare is working to ensure our physicians have more opportunities to provide input to decisions that impact their practices. Their input is needed to improve access to care and to achieve continuous quality improvements. While staffing levels may feel stretched when volumes peak, they are aligned with external benchmarks and national best practices.
