Pros

Monopoly on local health care leaves people with no other options, ensuring a continued corporate revenue stream. Great employees here are becoming more of a rarity, but still are prevalent for the moment.

Cons

I wouldn't work for this corporation on principal alone. They have recently made poor investments in acquiring many other regional hospitals, which have negatively affected their bottom line. In response, they have slashed benefits of their retirees, breaking the promises made to them. They use regional salary reviewing to justify underpaying current and prospective employees, despite the level of delicate service provided. Munson is quickly devolving into a train wreck, characterized by corporate gluttony. Their pay and benefits are quickly falling below industry standards, and patients will ultimately pay the price.

Pros

Like a lot of healthcare IT, it's generally a relaxed atmosphere. The general physical work conditions are pretty good.

Cons

Munson Healthcare is the only large IT shop in the area, and the largest single employer in the area. There's a perception that it gives management power of the employees. I've heard managers talking about blacklisting employee candidates for future positions when they turn down Munson because they can get better pay elsewhere. The joke here, often repeated by management, is "A view of the bay is worth half the pay." Even though the cost of living is as high or higher than other areas where pay is somewhat higher. And nobody can afford any housing with a hint of a view of the bay. Another issue is that management only values management. I've had a director level manager admit that technical people are not respected in the corporate culture. And the most technically advanced people are pushed out of technical work and into management if they want to advance. The IT shop actually created another level of junior managers from their technical staff at a time when management should be getting out of the way of people doing actual work.
