Pros

Great company with latest high tech products and opportunity to engage and be part of multiple vertical markets. Great company stability. Recognized leader in multiple divisions with product lines. Talented personnel.

Cons

Manufacturing is out of Jpn and so limitations to fully understand mfg process. Headquarters from Jpn, and can be a challenge for peer to peer communication in Japanese and English.

Pros

Decent benefits. Manageable job-related stress (politics aside). Better-than-average autonomy and flexibility. Great place to coast or await retirement.

Cons

Poor management. Niche market that is vulnerable to industry cycles. Limited opportunity for career progress. Japan handles essential work and important decisions - US operations are largely non-essential. Unclear/undefined roles and responsibilities. Lack of standardized processes and/or inconsistent adherence to standardized processes. HR is ridiculous and ineffective (at all levels). Passive-aggressive environment Cronyism Very top heavy org structure – more managers than individual contributors. Top level managers with few or no direct reports – some managers retain their title only to enable a salary that far outweighs their individual contribution. Power seekers go largely unchecked – they are allowed to usurp authority, exercise undue authority, and even bully. Very little constructive feedback - unconditional positive lip service, with negative impressions and biases perpetuated in hushed tones behind closed doors. Blame is quietly assigned to lower level employees who are unknowingly thrown under the bus. Dissent is ignored or passive-aggressively squashed.
