Pros

Especially in the current political climate (i.e. a Trump/Republican administration), nothing feels as important or relevant as defending and advocating for reproductive freedom. Everyone who works at the organization is incredibly passionate and for the most part, incredibly intelligent and creative. Our president Ilyse Hogue is a visionary and working with her/for her is a learning experience on a daily basis and a pleasure. We have a very teamwork centered culture and all departments work closely and collaboratively with one another. Everyone who works here is invested in the success of our campaigns and our organization. Ideas from all levels of staff and management are encouraged, called upon and, for the most, considered seriously. Creativity, hard work, innovation and being a self-starter is rewarded.

Cons

We are small but mighty organization and we frequently take on more campaigns and general day-to-day work than we actually have time for within the constraints of what the union contract lays out (i.e. 7.5 hour days). Our policy shop is incredibly smart and committed but the Director of the department has not changed her thinking of how to build power (or even of how her dept's time is allocated) in years and it sometimes does not align with what would actually be useful for the employees who do program work in the organization. We're a non-profit, so the pay is not great, especially considering the cost of living in DC has increased so dramatically in recent years.
