Company going downhill

Pros

Financial strength, Co-workers, offer entry level jobs for recent college graduates

Cons

The company has begun a decline over the past 3 years and it seems to be picking up speed. As an auto insurer to the public they are straying from the level headed business decisions they built their reputation on. Senior management is moving the company in the direction of cost savings over customer satisfaction. As an employer it only gets worse. Current management wants to compete with national carriers by simply telling the employees to do more with less. The technology is still roughly 10 years behind the standard which is a major set back to productivity. The lax environment that once made the pitfalls of the company bearable is now gone. More money has been spent on technology that allows monitoring of current employees than has been spent on tech to allow employees to be more productive. Placing blame is more important than fixing issues. Job movement is nonexistent.

Pros

Great Benefits, Generous Time Off, Great Co Workers, Low Cost Lunch, Free Soup

Cons

All though I gave NJM a Neutral rating, I could have easily given it a dissatisfied rating. NJM is very true to its traditions, and one of those being a lack of diversity in Leadership positions. There are very few if any ethic personeI who holds a position higher than JR Underwriter in the department. I can only speak for the Personal Lines department for my comments and I am sure other departments have a better out look on the company. The advancement (learning multiple lines) opportunity for newly licensed representatives is so stagnant that it has caused morale within the Personal Lines Department to diminish. You constantly hear representatives looking to apply at other organizations after only being within the department for a few months. Seems as if no one within the department is content and happy to work for the organization. I understand that some people are never satisfied, but with a majority of your personal lines staff wanting to leave means it's time for NJM to make some positive changes to boost morale, and take a moment to put there employees first. NJM is known for how great there customer service is, and the personal lines department is responsible for that. If your customers knew how miserable your staff was answering their phone with a tie and shirt on everyday I believe business would be highly effected.

Pros

- Decent work life balance - IT Management is competent - IT Department leadership is receptive to feedback - Good benefits package (but see caveat below) - Free soup

Cons

- Upper management has no problem with reducing benefits, regardless of feedback from employees. One of the selling points of working here was a hybrid work schedule, with only two days in office. Upper management is pushing through a change in policy where not only do employees have to come in an extra day, but everyone must come in on tuesdays and thursdays, whereas previously in-office days were at the employee's discretion. IT management has tried to find compromises, but upper management has not budged - Do not expect upper management to be receptive to feedback - More senior devs seem to be overworked - work life balance might not remain as you advance
