Pros

Opportunity for entry level developers to get a position. Interview process was relatively easy - preliminary phone call with recruiter, technical phone call with client, technical video call with client. Generally good work/life balance. Some clients expect long/unusual hours (e.g., west coast hours for an east coast developer), but on most projects, there is freedom in your schedule. Direct managers can be good, depending on who you are under.

Cons

Lacking actual opportunity to gain experience at the entry level. Many clients want 8 years+ of experience, so many entry level developers are not able to be placed on projects. This results in a lot of bench time or time on projects in non-development roles. Work is mundane. Lots of meetings. Lots of bureaucracy typical of a large company. Employees are restricted from downloading any software, even that which is necessary for development. New bench policy is 6 weeks of paid bench, then 4 weeks unpaid, after which the individual is let go. Number of bench weeks available resets after 6 uninterrupted months on a client project. While on bench, resources are expected to apply internally for positions on client projects. Previous policy was unlimited bench, and the change was the result of an acquisition. Poor benefits - 2 weeks of PTO that moved up to 3 weeks after company acknowledged that their benefits are poor compared to other companies. No other benefits changes. - "Reimbursement for training" as a benefit is misleading. Company will not pay unless it is determined there is a business need (i.e., a requirement by the client). Raises and bonuses are minimal and do not reflect performance whatsoever.

Pros

I can't really think of a positive for this company's foray into consulting. I guess if you enjoy working for a staff augmentation firm, that would be a pro for this company.

Cons

I was part of a small boutique financial consulting firm in Charlotte, NC and we were bought out by this conglomerate. NTT is actually one of the largest telecom companies in the world, and it feels like that immediately. I would very much recommend to anyone that wants to retain some part of their individuality, or wants to work for a consulting firm...RUN, do not walk, out of the door. This really isn't what you're looking for. NTT changed the game by turning our very successful high-end consulting firm into a "lowest common denominator" staff augmentation firm. What's worse is that now as a consultant, NTT expects you to find your own project to go to while you are expected to work full-time on a current project. Oh, and you'll get several days of bench time to MAYBE a week in between projects. NTT is not great for families in the Charlotte area because their business model is a high-turn over numbers game where efficiency is a dirty word and bureaucratic style red-tape will make you think you are working for the DMV. Compared to peers, our salaries were lowered. People were pushed out. Now instead of walking to the IT Department, I have to call the IT Department in India, who then create a ticket, and eventually re-route it to the Charlotte office up to 5 business days later. It's a wonder to me that so many smart people create such stupid procedures/policies. If you'd like to be a part of a stifling, high-turnover, and exhausting workplace, this is for you. Otherwise, I'd recommend looking a little harder at some of NTT's competitors because I can assure you that's where the vast majority of current NTT employees are looking as well. Final advice: Don't get caught up in all the nice words. NTT is about as soulless as they come. And their Japanese based management has made it very clear that they don't much care for nor acknowledge American customs or working style.

Pros

Good people - my ex Dell Services\Perot colleagues are great. That is, what is left of us.

Cons

Dell was bad, but who knew NTT DATA Services would take it to an entirely new level? Huge layoffs. Drastically cut benefits, remote employees foot all bills for their productivity (internet, electricity, telephone, office equipment and supplies) which means no allowances of any kind (you do not want to work remote for this company, they will exploit you, do not work from home), salary increases less than 1%, bonus 2xyear minimum possible, can only take vacation after it is accrued. And, if you love red tape, this is the place for you.
