Pros

Ryan Homes is a very good home builder and has the sales and home building process down to a science.

Cons

This is a great job for someone who is very aggressive, can take orders without question and follows the Ryan Homes process. It is an unspoken rule that you are never to speak your mind. The better reps are required to sell more homes and therefore work more hours to make the same money due to their quota system which is based on ability of the sales person not the situation they are in. There are people who have sold twice as many homes in a more difficult environment and have made less money than someone who sold half as many homes in a less challenging situation. Promotions are dangled over your head every time they think you are unhappy and might quit. However at the next interview panel your name is somehow left off the list and there is always a reason why that promotion would not have been a good fit. However, something better is just around the corner and you will be kept in mind for that one.

Pros

Nothing to say in this section.

Cons

Management is horrendous. The QC department in mortgage is a joke. The 2 leaders they have making all the decisions are very immature and unethical. Constantly spreading rumors about everyone in their own department, even though they will never even speak to their employees. They've created a toxic atmosphere in which you are punished for having any type of relationship with others in the department. Also, for the very limited promotions that are available, the 2 "leaders" base everything off personal feelings towards people, not your quality of work. There has been a ton of turnover in the department due to the management, but they are too stupid to realize that people are leaving because of them and the president and HR clearly are just as stupid because they haven't questioned why 27 people have left the department in 10 years. My advice for anyone trying to interview for something in this department - ask what the average length of employment for members of the department is. (it's mind-blowingly low). Also the HR department and their mortgage "business partner" is awful at his job and doesn't care at all about what you have to say.

Toxic Workplace-Don't Do It

Pros

The salary is higher than average and some offices allow flexibility with work hours. Lunchtime was an hour (you will need the break).

Cons

Micro management is constant and exhausting. With all loan processors having huge workloads, they schedule 2 or 3 long, worthless meetings (taking away time we could be working) per week for updates/status of files. During these, they belittle employees in front of their peers and needless to say, moral was extremely low. Raises are very low. Overtime is rarely (like never) approved so you'll be working from home on your laptop that they gladly issue to you. They tell you that you can't do this (wink wink) but will call you at the next meeting out if everything's not done.
