Pros

Salary is good at entry level. Working hours quite good when compared to the industry. Work-life balance is maintained. (of course manager dependent.. for instance, manager in my team leaves office before 7pm every day.) Very fancy headquarter in Edinburgh - No wonder nationalized by UK government now..

Cons

poor management, chaotic policies. CEO can say one thing in day one and say a completely opposite thing the next day. Staff training is minimal. Support is in particular weak. Have to wait for months to get my laptop fixed. Secretaries are extremely unhelpful. Have to make more than 5 calls to get a job done.

Pros

There are lots of opportunities in different parts of the Group, you can move into areas that you are interested in but wouldn't be able to go to a new employee as. Management are fair with respect to family life. There are some really good managers here who understand how to treat people

Cons

It can be a bit chaotic, everyone is too busy and the management don't seem to have any strategy of where the business is going. Culture is becoming more American and lots of senior hires are from US houses. New management are very aggressive and management style is the hairdryer treatment.

Pros

It's a large and stable employer, which at the time offered decent pension and benefits. There's a large number of different types of jobs available, in locations up and down the country, and it seemed relatively easy to move. The salary was half decent, if not spectacular. 10% bonus guaranteed to all employees.

Cons

Some incredibly incompetent middle and senior management, who have steered the bank to the brink of bankruptcy. Pension was reduced in value for new employees, pay is unspectacular. Most of the jobs seemed mind numbingly boring, little real development work done in the UK anymore, all more or less outsourced.
