Pros

Your line manager does not have a clue about your job. You can take advantage of this but do not expect much from financial compensation.

Cons

RBS is very anti-intellectual and people with degrees are considered "crack-pots" by their not-so-smart line managers. Line managers are however very competent when it comes to take credit by ideas created by crack-pots.

Pros

Can be used as a stepping stone to go to somewhere better elsewhere!

Cons

No chance of promotion as management look after themselves first. They use the bell curve to give themseleves high grades (which are limited in amount) and thus there is little left for the workers who really did all the work.

Pros

The best reason to work for RBS is the people. They may not be the best and the brightest, but they are good people with a strong commitment to doing what is best for the customer - and that is core to services.

Cons

The pay is poor compared to other banks of equal size. Promotions, in my opinion, are not fully justified are given to the most deserving individuals.
