Terrible place to work

Pros

The only pro I got out of this company was putting industry experience on my resume. The company also provides good health care and benefits however the cons outweigh the pros in this case.

Cons

The company is NOT diverse. Nearly 80% of the company is of asian descent which creates a high school clique like environment. There is absolutely no structure in management and on board of directors. Most of the company is inexperienced from HR to lab managers and handle situations misproperly. It won't be long before a huge law suit is filed against this company for mistreating their employees and doing things illegally.

Biggest mistake of my career

Pros

There are 3 people I work with who are not annoying. The office has electricity and running water. When talking to strangers at a bar or AA meetings about what Natera does, you'll be perceived as the smartest person in the room.

Cons

It's hard to describe the feeling you get each and every day knowing you made a bad career move. This is the most poorly managed organization I've been a part of in my 16 year career, and that includes one company which went bankrupt. The company lacks vision alignment and management from the top down is constantly struggling with the unintended consequences of their own actions. Pero like every day we're changing direction. An idea touted as brilliant by one is then shot down and cancelled by another the next day. With how intentionally siloed the departments are, it's no wonder why there is a constant power struggle. I'm not the only one surprised by how the board has allowed the same core executive team to function for this long.

"We appreciate your feedback and are sorry you feel this way. Our company and leadership face the many challenges associated with growth within our organization and within our industry in order to remain competitive while meeting the needs of our customers and our employees. We do struggle with unintended consequences of our high expectations to be nimble and ready to change the world. We are working to eliminate silos and unify our vision, values and teams to work in concert to achieve our common goals with more incentives to work collaboratively to achieve our common goals. As a current manager, we hope you will participate in making those improvements and feel more positive about your career at Natera. "

Innovative and revolutionary products, lacking leadership

Pros

free lunch 3x a week, free snacks, coffee, tea, etc.; gym and play room. easy access to 101. Innovative and inspiring products

Cons

the lab operations management is a joke. The managers and director who have been working in this company for a couple years, have limited leadership capability to support the bottom line towards the next phase of product growth. Heard whines that important decisions were made by sales/marketing (or even R&D), however, literally these folks are incompetent to be critical decision makers, nor to establish a good working relationship with the other leaders effectively to work out win-win scenarios, so that lab staff won’t be the victims for those decisions. they do not appear or actively engage to the routine cross-functional project meetings. They send their lower rank staff to work with the other teams, yet they spend their work hours either from home, or excused themselves from meetings due to long commute, etc. Favoritism plays a huge part in here, as these folks, despite these behaviors, still able to get their pay raised and/or promotion, rather than being put into performance improvement plan. often times, the resolutions of their issues are to get new hires to fix instead of looking to fix issues themselves - another example of incompetency despite they are in senior management levels and pretty well compensated
